The wheels are still in great shape with standard forest server road wear and tear. The tires have less than 5k miles on them. The tires are 50,000 mile tires that run smooth on the highway but are trail ready, especially for the sidewall unfriendly desert and southwest.
These tires are the largest you can run OEM suspension and provide a great ride height and ride quality. I'm asking $2000 for the wheels and tires with a preference for selling them all together. If you purchase the wheels I'll throw in a AEV Procal.

I have an ever so slightly used Gobi Stealth Roof Rack (Gobi JK Page (http://www.gobijeep.com/JK.htm)) for a 2 door JK, for sale in Phoenix, AZ (Tempe, AZ - Rural and Southern).
The rack has all the options;

Gobi Stealth Rack for 2 door Jeep Wrangler JK

Driver Side Ladder

Wind Deflector

Sunroof Insert (aka full roof rack)

2 Door Quick Release

Ax and Shovel Attachment

Hi Lift Attachment

With a few ratchets this roof rack is phenomenal, provides tons of storage for both off roading and Home Depot runs. I have all the parts, nuts and bolts and instructions.

The rack was purchased in October of 2012 for $1800+, used a few times but I've sold the Jeep and thought the rack would be in better hands of someone on Expedition Portal versus someone cruising suburbia.

I'd like to get $1300. Please let me know if you are interested. If you purchase the roof rack I'll throw in a Rugged Ridge mirror relocation kit so you can run with the rack without the doors.

Also I have five 17" AEV Savegre Black Wheels wrapped in Goodyear Silent Armor Pro 285/70R17. Largest tire you can run on OEM suspension with less than 5k miles on them, if you are looking to outfit your JK. I'd let the wheels and tires go for $2000 and I'll throw in an AEV Procal

Word on the street is that REI gives a ton of money, to groups that really don't like what most of us do. Seems that the Federal Government, the Sierra Club and the like, would really like to see all off pavement trails closed to all motorized vehicles. Recently, the CEO of REI was made Interior Secretary, nominated by President Obama. This puts her in charge of National Park Service, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. I've personally watched as more and more trails have been closed over the last ten years. The Federal government is spending millions of dollars to close trails that have been open for a very long time. I'm not just propagating anti-government paranoia hear. I've witnessed enough of this to believe what many are writing about on the internet. If you care see for yourself, drive Main Divide Road in Southern California. I can't imagine the cost to erect such great lengths of steel railing that closes off trails that have been there for decades. The BLM has taken over millions of acres of land in the last 15 years and is closing much of it off.

Why don't we see REI offering any motorized overlanding specific products? I enjoy dispersed camping. I'm concluding that they don't like what I do.

So what can be done?
REI, is a coop. They are owned by it's members. They spend money to support politics that I do not agree with. I'm no longer shopping there and am choosing to buy products from companies which are either not politically affiliated and or sell overland products. I'm going to support those who support me. I feel like the dollar is the strongest vote that I have.

The box will go in the tongue area of my trailer.
How do transport firewood?
Post a pic if you have one.

Need some help from the guys who know it best.

I've been searching for a new rig for while now. This truck will be a 75% daily driver and a 25% camping, trail, light towing and work rig. I will note that regardless of the truck I pick, it will be moderately lifted and fitted with larger tires.

I think I've narrowed it down to two trucks. I want to know what YOU think.

2013 Ford F250 Extended cab, short bed. Gas

I've always favored GM's trucks and, until recently, never even considered a Ford - let alone a F250 - as an option: but I'm impressed. The F250 is the only truck with a solid front axle, manual transfer case and manual locking hubs straight from the factory. That simplicity means a lot to me. Also, the "upfitter switches" is an awesome option! I love the Ram 2500's, but the F250 is built in the USA. Did I mention I love solid front axles... a lot?

:D Anyways, it seems like the F250 is a seriously bullet proof truck. I'd always prefer a crew cab pick up, but because of the F250's size, a crew cab will not leave enough room in my garage. So I am left with only the extended cab as an option. As much as I'm liking the F250, I'm very worried that I'll regret purchasing an extended cab truck. Would that be a deal breaker for you?

2014 GMC Sierra Crew cab, short bed.

I'm drawn to the F250 because of its simplicity, ruggedness and power. But I can't help thinking a Sierra 1500 would be a safer bet. I love the new look for the Sierras and the updated powertrain is enticing. More interior room, better gas mileage and I'd wager, a better ride. The bed would be sufficient for most tasks, but it would not be long enough to camp in. Less towing capability and the independent front suspension will probably require more maintenance down the road because of the lift.

So what do you guys think? I understand that only I can decide what's best for me, but I just want to hear some opinions from people with similar interests!

Thanks!

Hello all,

FYI - I posted an identical build thread at Toyota120.com.

Well, this has been a long time coming. I finally completed my suspension install and got some new shoes this past weekend. I installed the OME suspension with 885/895 springs and their new Nitrocharger Sport shocks. Is it stiffer than stock? Yes. Is it unbearable? Not in my opinion. I had an OME suspension on my old Wrangler TJ and for the money I thought it was the best riding suspension you could get. So far, I feel the same way for the 4Runner. Although, I understand that many of you do much more extreme off-roading and much more often than I do. Anyhow...

For tires, I went with Goodyear Silent Armors in P255/75 R17 on stock SR5 rims. Why p-rated? Well, like most people here I am on-pavement 99% of my time. I did not want the harshness of an E load range tire, and even though I did consider C load range tires, I could not find anything that I thought was an acceptable size at an acceptable price. Also, I made a trade-off for the taller sidewall but lower weight of the p-rated tire (44lbs. vs. 53 lbs. for the GYSA in 265/70 E load range). Ergo, for 4 GYSAs from Sam's Club I was out the door for $950. I simply cannot believe how the price of tires has sky-rocketed in the past couple of years...

Despite the 255/75 R17 size (32") I was rubbing on the fender liners which I think is due to the Firestone alignment. I'll track down the alignment specs I've seen on the forums here and take them in to make sure everything is good to go (I'm going to put that lifetime alignment to use). I have already pushed the liners forward but still just barely rub going in reverse at full-lock. In the past day of driving, according to the OBC I've suffered about a 1.5 mpg loss during city driving.

Yes, yes...photos or it doesn't exist. They're crappy cell phone photos...
Well, that was a weekend of fun and unforeseen stupidity. Much beer was consumed during post-lift activities.

I would like to thank Bulldog, PhotoG and Joel (all at Toyota120.com) for their write-ups that were posted on Toyota120.com. Also, the discussion on "Skinny Tires" ( http://www.expeditionportal.com/foru...t=%27skinny%27 ) on this site helped me to determine which shoes to go for, Martinjumper contributed a lot to that initial discussion. I used all of these sources of information along with the FSM to guide my way through this little project. All were very helpful.

The Army is moving me out to Arizona this Summer, so perhaps I'll run into a few fellow 4Runner aficionados out there on the trails. :wavey:

On June 14 my wife and I and our D1 rover explored the western side of the Capitol Reef NP area south of the park HQ via the Pleasant Creek Road/Trail, Tantalus Flats Road, Lower Bowns Reservoir area, and up to Hy 12 on the east side of Boulder Mountain. We then proceeded to the Grand Staircase/Escalante NM area via scenic Hy 12 through Boulder to Escalante, Utah. On June 15 we headed SW down the 110 mile round trip Hole-in-the-Rock Road to the scenic "Hole" high above Lake Powell/the Colorado River which follows part of the Mormon pioneer route of 1880 towards present day Bluff, Utah. Visited scenic side roads/4x4 trails along the "Hole" Road including Egypt, Devil's Garden, Cave Point, Dance Hall Rock, Sooner Rocks, etc. Exquisite area bordered on the west by the 50 mile long towering Straight Cliffs and on the east by the hot desert/sandstone Escalante River canyons and flats. On June 16 we returned to Colorado backtracking along the way we came including Hy 12, Boulder Mountain, Lower Bowns Reservoir, Tantalus Flats Road, and the Pleasant Creek Road into Capitol Reef again. Here are some photos which don't come close to capturing the remote beauty we passed through.

I am looking to sell my four Hella 4000 lights. They have been converted to HID, and have BRAND NEW HID kits to go in them. The new kits include new bulbs and new slim line ballasts. The kits are still in their boxes. They are in 5000k color (brightest/white) and are 35 watt systems. These lights are about 6 years old, and are in great shape. They are not new, but are nice. They are a high quality light from Hella, and have aluminum housings and glass lenses. The reflectors on these are phenominal and put out stupid amounts of light with the HID conversion, all while drawing much lower amperage than a conventional filament bulb. I will not be using them on my buggy build, so they must go... Comes with covers as pictured as well.

There are two pencil beams, and two euro/driving beams.

I will sell all 4 of them with the new HID kits for $350.00 plus shipping or I will sell them in pairs for $200.00 plus shipping. Local pickup in Atlanta is also an option.

Shipping on these wont be cheap, they are heavy and somewhat large. If it goes over $50 bucks via priority mail, I will cover the rest. I will charge actual shipping costs otherwise.

hi expo fans

a few weeks back i saw a build for a trailer that used an arched axle to maximize ground clearance. I have been searching for about 2 hours and cant seem to find it again.

IIRC the axle came out of a minivan. any nudge in the right direction is appreciated

thanks

DisplayMate is a company that sells software to calibrate and optimize computer displays. The company has posted a series of articles comparing the new higher resolution displays found in smartphones can computer tablets. See the reviews here http://www.displaymate.com/mobile.html

One of the interesting points made in the articles is that the Apple's "Retina" display resolution of about 325 pixels per inch is not at the limit of the human eye's ability to resolve points of light. Holding a phone at a distance of 10 inches, people with the best vision (20/10) can resolve individual points down to about 600 dots per inch. When the phone is held closer than 10 inches, people with normal vision (20/20) or well-corrected vision can often see resolutions approaching 600 dots per inch.

The newest smartphones, with Full HD display (1920x1080), have about 440 dots per inch. At normal viewing distances, most people should be able to see the difference between an Apple "Retina" display and one of the newer Full HD displays.

Well, Last September y'all may remember I posted a lot of pics from our trip up to Ely, NV for Labor Day. I took a ton of video with a little action camera I bought specifically for the purpose of recording jeepin' adventures.

Well, I never sat down and made the video. I finally did. 8 months later. This took a while to make, and it's my first try at doing anything like this. So, please, I welcome feedback. Keep in mind this own some wheelin vid its a road trip video.

It's a little long, 12 minutes, but has a good soundtrack and some nice scenery! You all know how i post the full 'story' of any of my trips, and i attempted to do the same thing with this video. I hope you enjoy it, and again, please feel free to offer feedback so I can do better next time.

P.S. As usual, youtube butchered the quality, but its not too bad.

So I started this little series because I think food photography is kinda fun...but then it occurred to me that it would be the perfect opportunity to play and learn with different apertures (the iris, not the program). I was using a tripod so shutter was a moot point. Light for the herbs is one of those sun tunnel skylights and I was shooting with a 100 2.8L. It was also an experiment in cooking as I'v never made Chimichurri before, but it's super easy and tastes AMAZING. :ylsmoke:

These first two are f2.8, which clearly provides way too shallow DOF. I wish I had caught this on the first go around, but it took my non photographer girlfriend looking at them on the camera to notice that it was way too extreme (way to pay attention me!). :sport_box

These next two are at f7.1. DOF is more fitting to the subject I think. But maybe I should have gone even higher? I was thinking blur the background to draw the eye to the herbs, but now I'm thinking maybe it would have looked better if everything were in focus?

Ahhhhh! A gremlin is trying to steal my shallot! I used some fill flash on this one, but think I should have held the flash at a higher angle.

Taken courtesy of my girlfriend, my hands were too covered in meat juice and carbon from the grill to handle my camera...

The final product! The sun had set, so I used flash for this. I should have focused on the front of the meat, and much more DOF. Maybe more of a straight down shot? But I kind of like the lower angle too...

I'm not entirely pleased with my setup for the shots. Different angle, different props positioned around the herbs, something. I'm not entirely sure what that something is though...thoughts?

It's tire-time--I currently have 7 years and 60,000 miles on my BFG AT KOs mounted on a 2000 Toyota 4Runner. They've been a great tire with no issues to speak of. My current BFG's are load range D and the new ones are load range E only, my concern is this tire will be too stiff given the relatively light (4100 lb) vehicle I have. Therefore I am looking at making the move to a load range C Cooper Discoverer S/T. They have great reviews, apparently the silicon content of the tires is an advantage over the BFGs, they have a similar tread pattern, with the down-sides being perhaps less sidewall strength than the BFG and the lack of the rim protector feature.

My 4Runner is a daily driver, sees all types of off-roading (fire roads, rocks, desert-use, etc.) I am also making the move to a 17" wheel with a 275/70R17 tire. I keep hearing complaints about BFG's, sidewall strength, etc., so I wonder if the Cooper might be a better tire for my application or if I should just stick with what I know. Anyone have experiences with the Cooper S/Ts?

Hey Everyone,

Been lurking for a while, and I thought it was time to start posting, now that I have moved beyond the "wishing" stage, into an actual building stage. So many awesome vehicles here, my own projects seem a bit.... lame in comparison.... :/ I haven't seen any Durango's here on the forum..... maybe I just haven't looked in the right place yet?

Like the title says, I am taking my old daily drive, and starting a restore/build project. Since both time and funds are very limited, and because of some special considerations (explained below), this is going to be a very mild build. I am going to try and stay pretty close to stock for the most part.

Here's an older picture of the truck, will get some more current ones to add to the thread.
FB-Durango.jpg

The rig is completely stock, except for slightly upsized tires, or at least upsized according to the dealer. It is a standard SLT package, with the 5.2L V-8. I am running generic 31"X10"X15" AT tires. The dealer says that the stock size is/was 235/75/15, but the books says 31's on the SLT package. Either way, I have no rub, and plenty of room with the 31's.

The good:
106k original miles (I have owned it since 30k)
Engine, transfer case, transmission, axles all solid, no drive line issues.
New ball joints, tie rods, front brakes.
Floors, tailgate, quarter panels all solid
Decent mileage, avg 18-20 if I am gentle on the pedal.
After market towing package installed.

The bad:
Front Bumper rusted through, needs replacing
Drives door shot, rusted through
Steer has tons of play, lower column needs replacing
Exhaust rotted through at manifold
Rear brakes shot, pads are non existent, drums are pretty bad too
Gas tank skid plate missing, no idea when it was removed or why, just noticed it was gone one day... :/
Headlight lens are junk, cloudy to the point of useless, fog lights are dead
Paint on hood scratched threw to bare metal
Dead battery
Screwy master door locks/window control switch

So it isn't a bad list, nothing huge or unrepairable.

One of the biggest problems with the project is I am not mechanically inclined at all. I don't mind doing the work, I actually kind of enjoy it, but I am not very good at it, nor do I have any experience. Because of budget, I have to do the work on this myself, with friends helping. The steering is my biggest concern, then the exhaust.

The basic plan is to correct all the mechanical problems, replace the bumper and door, and then start adding to the rig for overland travel, but not anything too extreme. I have driven this rig off-road a number of times, taken it on the trails that I use to travel with my TJ and YJ's, and I have found it to be pretty capable. Nothing to extreme, because it was/is my family mover/daily driver, still I have a solid feel of what it can do.

Upgrades/add-on's:

Brush Guard/pre runner (?)
Rooftop cargo rack
32"X11"X15 (?) or at least MT rated tires (maybe better AT tires?)
Nerf Bars/rock sliders (the stock running board rotted off)
Skid Plates
Tow Hooks/Recovery gear
Rear lighting
CB and dual band 2m/70cm radio's

Some considerations I have to keep in mind with this build/project. One, I am out in all kinds of wild weather, as a member of ARES/CERT, but also because I am in New England we get the full gambit of weather. Wind is a major concern, as I travel a good section of highway to and from work that is known for dangerous cross winds. I spend a good deal of time during the hurricane Irene pulling stuck cars out of huge puddles. Second, my youngest child is special needs, and has trouble getting up into the Durango at it's current height. So I do not plan to lift this rig at all.

The truck has great cargo space, one of the things I love about it, but with 3 dogs, 2 kids, plus myself and my wife, that space gets used up very quickly. We have a Hi-Lo camper, and I need to keep that in mind, for towing. (only a a 14ft, but it is 3800, empty!) Most of the time for exploring we'll be using a small utility trailer and not the camper. Being in New England, the trails vary a lot, and I am not really interested in hard core rock crawling (can't with my son anyways), but exploring class 4 roads is more what we'd like to do.

I looked at recovery gear, and a winch plus the brush guard/mount combo, and the pricing is way out of what I can afford. I am going to install additional tow hooks, front and rear, get a solid set of straps and a come a long. That is the best I can do with my budget.

Anyways, I hope to have this project up and rolling by the time the Vermont Overland Rally/Workshop rolls around in a couple of months. Will post up pics and info as I work on the project.

Cheers!

Well my search for the right edc weapon is over...... I think. I started to down size the G26 to a sig p938. So far the gun has been back to Sig 3 times so with the poor reliability I just can't carry it. I then went to the M&P shield 9mm. There is a lot to like about this gun especially for $450. However after getting about 600 rounds through it I decided by the time I upgraded the grips trigger and sights I might want to look and see what else is available. I was in my local Ace hardware last Monday and was in the gun section (most awesome Ace Hardware ever) and saw that the Springfield XDS was just out in 9mm and they had one. After holding it and dry firing it I had to have it. For $550 I am way ahead same size, and performance as they Shield but significantly better feel and trigger. I just got in a set of the XS big Dot sights for it and should have them installed this week. Here are the pics.

I love Death Valley. The desert just fascinates me. As a Florida native, there is just no place on the east coast that creates the sense of remoteness and calmness.

Six years ago, I moved to California. And of course, my first desert experience was Death Valley. It holds a special place in my heart and I try to go back as often as possible.

My past three forays into Death Valley were solo adventures (solo = me + wife), staying in the valley proper and only driving the easier day trip trails like Racetrack Playa, Titus Canyon and Eureka Dunes, and camping at established campgrounds along the way. But this time would be different. This time, I wanted to get off the beaten path. Off the pavement that traverses the park. And onto the trails that always tempted my better judgment.

There had to be a way to link the more difficult Lippincott Road and Steele Pass with a few other trails to create an all dirt route from the South to the North. So I printed out a few 11x17 inch maps, took out a highlighter and started linking up trails in an attempt to stay away from pavement as much as geographically possible.

Several years and one baby later, and I hadn’t found the time or right people to do this big trip with. But thanks to IH8MUD, I developed the pretty good group of local friends that shared similar overlanding ambitions. We completed lots of short trips together to Big Bear, Antelope Valley, Mojave Road and some other local OHV areas and were ready for something a little more ambitious. The summer of 2012 rolled around and I found out that my wife is pregnant with baby number two. I now had the reason and the people to join me. The perfect opportunity for one last epic Pre-Baby #2, guys only Death Valley Trip.

My plan was to go with one other truck. Word spread and one turned into two, then three, then four, then 13 other trucks, all friends of friends. Typically I would post this kind of trip on the online forums but decided to keep this one limited to friends for a more intimate trip. An epic email thread started to coordinate the trip. Over 300 emails and a handful of scheduling conflicts later and 13 trucks whittled down to eight.

The Trip
My trips always have some kind of goal. Some trips are based around getting to that perfect location at the perfect time for that perfect picture. Other trips are about finding old mines, exploring historical areas or just seeing some natural scenery. The goal of this trip was to drive. I wanted plan a trip that would test my planning skills, driving endurance and vehicle capability. There would be no wimping out on this trip. If we had to drive all night to read the next destination, then that is what we would do. No getting tired and stopping short, until of course there was a safety risk.

When I go on an off-road, overland, backcountry camping or whatever you want to call it, I really enjoy moving forward. Base camping and doing day trips has its place but isn’t what excites me the most. With my trip planning goals of avoiding backtracking and pavement while seeking out a challenge, my route covered almost 300 miles of dirt over 4 days. This may seem easy to some, and it would be with 1-2 other trucks, 8 trucks adds another layer of complexity to the planning. I had to rethink communications, timing and camping locations. Could 8 big trucks even fit in these camp locations? Daylight is limited in November and not everyone would to want to get up at 5am to start driving. Eight times the potential for a break down on top of the driver fatigue that comes with technical terrain and mediocre road for 10 hours a day. But the point of the trip was to seek out a challenge.

The final itinerary for the trip was:

I’m writing this a few months after the trip so my memory may be a little cloudy. I’ll let the photos do the talking with a bit of narration on things I remember.

Day 1:
The meet up point was Baker, CA. Some of us meet up on the freeway by chance and convoyed together to Baker. When Craig arrived in Baker there were no signs of our planned meet up point, Coco’s Bakery; just a nice big dirt lot along the main drag through town. Coco’s or not, it wasn’t too difficult to spot the half dozen Land Cruisers pulled off on the side of the road.

After lots of lollygagging around, eating lunch, fueling up and tech talk it came time find out who was who. You spend a lot of time chatting with people on the forums, so it’s always fun put a face and a real name to a screen name. Before hitting the road we had a powwow to discuss the plans for the day and the trip, talk rules, and to make sure everyone had all the gear they needed.

When I was planning the trip I used Google earth a lot to chart our course. The satellite view of the road out of baker looked like it was a dirt road. To my dismay it turned out to be 30 miles of the smoothest pavement in California. On the upside it gave the group an opportunity to get into the driving together groove, test out all the various radio communications, and just have some low-pressure chitchat on the way to the start of the real driving. We turned onto our first dirt road, Harry Wade road, where we stopped to air down.

We hit the dirt. Instant white out conditions. The road had just been graded and made completely of dried out riverbed silt. I can only compare it to what the surface of the moon must be like. Just driving the truck at idle speeds kicked up a huge dust cloud. When I stepped out of my truck, I was instantly ankle deep in dust. Not the most fun driving conditions.

At points, the convoy stretched 8 miles long with everyone trying to keep at least a mile between trucks to avoid collisions. There was absolutely no wind at all, not even the slightest cross wind to blow the dust to the side. It just hung in the air forever making it almost impossible to see past the hood of the truck.

As the group slowed to a stop I heard the radio crackle “everyone stop! I got hit”. I was way ahead leading the group and my heart sank. This was the last thing I wanted to happen on the trip. My biggest concern as leader of the group was the safety of everyone. Thankfully the rear ending was at very low speeds and nothing more than some paint was hurt. We all got out of our trucks and regrouped to talk about the road conditions and keeping spacing to try to avoid another collision. The group pressed on.

After what seemed like only 30 seconds, I heard the radio crackle again “STOP! Got hit again”. I couldn’t believe it but really I could believe it. The conditions were even worse on the start of Warm Springs Road. The dust was so thick that even at a few miles per hour you could not see your own hood, let alone the truck in front of you until it was too late. I was way out ahead of the main pack of trucks so I turned around to drive back to see what happened. Unfortunately we were not so lucky the second time around.

PG3_8597.jpg

As I drove up, I said to my co-pilot, Don, “Is that the hood of his truck lifted up? That can’t be good.” One of the trucks with no steel front bumper rear ended a truck with a high clearance steel rear bumper, complete with gas can rack and tire swing out. You can guess who won. The collision occurred at under 10mph yet it managed to destroy the entire front end of Adam’s truck. The headlights were busted, the radiator support bent in, the hood crumpled, yet the bumper only scratched and cracked.

Everyone got out to assess the damage. In a group of self-proclaimed mechanics there were a lot of opinions flying around of what to do. We debated the merits of continuing on and working on the truck at camp that night or having Adam drive back to Baker. The truck was still running fine but we decided that because we were only getting more and more remote that it would not be wise for Adam to continue on. He probably could have continued on because several months later his truck was in the same condition driving all over Santa Monica while he waited for insurance to work itself out. I was super bummed out that he had to bail after only a few hours on the road. I can’t imagine how furious Adam was. Through it all he really managed to keep his cool. It was quite impressive. We managed to pull the front of the truck out with a ratchet strap hooked to the car that got rear ended, flattened down the hood as much as possible and secured everything so Adam could get back to Baker to decide if he could drive home or have to call in a tow.

1991 Mistsubishi Montero RS

I've always wanted a montero since high school. Back then a 91 montero was still considered the latest model. At least my freshman year.

Any how recently went camping, took the wife's mdx and ended up with two flats and a donut till I made it back to reasonable conditions and a tire shop. Knee jerk reaction, sell my commuter and buy and SUV. Found this thing with a mild 213k on it ( mild, yeah right ). Paid a cool 1400$ for it. Probably too much. It has AC. Passed emission with ease and overall runs good. Supposed engine rebuild at 190k and new trans as well. Carfax show major engine work performed. No leaks from the engine but there does seem to be a small leak from the trans that I will inspect soon. Probably over the weekend. The tires are complete ****. And the suspension is ****. Interior is probably 7/10. Passenger and back seat are 10/10. Floor 8/10 and driver seat has a tear in the left bolster like every old car does. Dash is ok but the tach is not working. Everything else works fine. Stereo is stock but total garbage. The windows are power as with the door locks but the switches need some replacing. Some are good some are bad. Headliner is perfect.

The body is straight w no accidents reported. No big dents or dings. All lights work.

At idle I can barely tell its running. Silky smooth. Then just gargles it's way down the road. Really smooth overall considering the condition if the suspension. Having AC in az is nice.

No check engine lights or anything. But I know they work because when the key half turn they do illuminate.

Here is what I have coming.

Tires: 31 x 10.5 x r15 kenda klevers.
New stereo. Went w a Bluetooth iPhone compatible wireless telephone mp3 unit thing.

New door speakers

---------------------------
List of things I need.
---------------------------
Suspension :
I was hoping I could use the shocks and struts from a newer model. Maybe pull offs. This I assume will be good for most daily task and some off road capabilities for my camping trips etc. please advise. I can't afford OME stuff.

Fix tranny leak.
Just gotta get under and see what's up.

Missing one exhaust nut on the manifold thus the gurgling. If anyone has one they would like to put in an envelope and help a brother out it would go a long way. Ill cover the charge.

Shift boot stuff.
I have an automatic and the plastic shift boot thing is all broken up. Need to replace to look clean.

All the rest is cosmetics. Window switchs and such. Mirror "straps" need replacing - little metal strapping on the mirror. I have the spare on the trick right now as it had a flat. It should look the part by next week.

PC Magazine editors returned to the field this Spring to test the speed and reliability of service provided by the major cell phone companies. The clear winner this year is AT&T, which topped the speed tests for LTE in metropolitan areas around the country.

Verizon Wireless gets the nod for its broad LTE coverage in suburban and rural areas. Fully 95% of Verizon's service areas have access to LTE. AT&T is concentrating on metropolitan areas first, as it deploys LTE.

Special mention goes to T-Mobile for posting the fastest 3G times in all regions. Typical T-Mobile 3G speeds are half as fast as Verizon and AT&T's LTE speed. T-Mobile is starting to deploy LTE service, but it's far behind Verizon and AT&T.

It's by no means the most action packed or intensely off-road trip, but I thought that I should post a little about a trip that's now about 70% complete (and thus has enough of a backlog to make for a better read).

Long story short it's about our 12 month road-trip around the United States and Canada in our Australian Suzuki 4x4 (pulling around 5,000lbs of travel trailer). We did it arse about, heading north for winter and south for summer to better experience both the locals and the more interesting weather.

If anyone would like a look, click here for our blog and feel free to send me any questions that might come to mind.

None of the technical and bureaucratic guff regarding shipping the car, crossing borders etc. had made it to the blog yet because we're still in the US and don't want to only put up half of the story (just in case leaving is even more torturous than getting in & around) but it'll be up there eventually.

n.b. I spent years lurking on this and other overlanding forums gathering information and would like to contribute a little back, now I know more than what I'd read elsewhere. We don't make a cent off the blog but hope what's there so far might inspire more people to take the leap towards their own adventure(s).

The canyons of Upper Chute and Baptist Draw might be one of the best canyon combos ever. If you get a chance drop into Baptist Draw near Teepee Rock. Hike down and do two Raps. From there hike straight up Upper Chute. The best 1 mile of canyon I have done. Nice, dark, tight, and just fun. In places you could not have your pack on. If you want it short you can exit at the top and hike back. For a nice 9 mile round trip head back the way you came. Go passed R2 in Baptist and will quickly find R3. That will be your last rap and begin the hiking descent of Baptist. When the wall start to open up, turn right and hike up Fault Canyon. Then hike up that a ways and when it opens up turn right and hike straight up and over the bench down the valley and back up to the other bench where you have staged you other vehicle. Or, you could have staged a vehicle at the top of fault and just kept hiking straight out. Not as fun though.

No water. Easy hike. Gorgeous slot.

If you ever wanted to do Upper Black Box near Mexican Mountain, now is the time. 1CFS at most.

My recommendation is a the direct route. From the Camping spot just before the pull out near the end of road go down the right hand drain to wear you pulled in. From there find a big juniper on the right hand side of the v-notched pour off. From there it is a nice little rap down to the bottom.

For more info on this please refer to Kelsey's box.

Even though the flow is so low, you still have some deep wading and swimming. Water was so warm no wetsuit is needed.

Looking at getting an awning, and would like to eventually get side walls to use as enclosed space as needed.

ARB awnings offer mosquito net walls, but I would like solid walls. If I bought an ARB, would say, the Iron Man solid walls work on it?
I know, I know, I should just buy the brand that has what I need, but I am looking for used or local, but am mostly just curious since the design of most of the inexpensive awnings appears to be very similar.

Unfortunately I have to part with my newly acquired Pinz. My decision to pursue further education is the driving factor for the sale. I'm selling a 1975 710M. I purchased the Pinz with 42298 km and it currently reads 44734 km. I purchased it back in November with big plans of travel and adventure. Life, however, has taken a different path at the moment and I must part with it. The previous owner had if for about 12 years. This Pinz has been meticulously maintained and cared for. It is pre-wired for (2) 12v batteries to be wired in parallel. It has 3 inverters, 12v power up front for cigarette charging use. There are Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks up front. The truck has custom, fold up panels in the rear that will keep the entire vehicle secure. There are door locks installed as well. The CB works but needs to be tuned. The cd player is ready for speakers to be mounted. The rear is outfitted with a buddy heater, surround sound, and LED lighting that will work when the batteries are installed; or, they will also work when connected to an extension cord from a house or trailer site. It has two battery tenders hard-wired in for battery maintenance. The entire truck is outfitted with insulation and foam padding to eliminate noise and vibrations. I believe the driveline was also balanced. Comes with the original shovel and axe. Everything is in good working order. I would prefer local pick up only.

CONS: The parking brake needs adjustment.
The right rear axle boot is a replacement but has a small tear; I put a bit of RTV on it for a temporary fix.

I'm located in New River AZ. $16,000 obo.

Just picked her up last Tuesday. 2013 Ram 3500 4X4 Crew Cab Short Bed, Cummins Diesel, 68RFE Auto Transmission, 3.42 rear. SLT package with a few extra goodies like step bars and factory spray-in bedliner. Has the 7" EVIC in the instrument cluster and the 8.4" touch screen UConnect. No major plans for it yet, as it will be a work/personal truck and I want to keep the warranty intact. I ran a camper shell on my last truck, but I'm considering going with a retractable toneau cover this time.

I have read through all of the great info on here and I would like to solicit some of your opinions. My friend and I just purchased an M416 trailer with replacement lights on it. They are wired to a 7 blade connector, (6 blades with center plug) I have to put an adapter on this for my FJ which is the newer 4 post. I am thinking about removing the older connector and making it the 4 post to be a direct connection. Any reason not to do this? I understand this would prevent me from charging a battery on the trailer from my FJ but if we add a battery we are going to go the solar charging route.

For some reason the adapter didn't work on my FJ today and mostly worked on his but did some funny things when headlights were on. That's the primary motivation for changing to the modern plug and eliminating the adapter.

Thanks in advanced and once we get through the tear down and rebuild stage I will post some pictures and try to limit the questions since many have been answered in the past.
Im a ultralight backpacker and this just doesn't really fit into my gear style. I dont have the original box but I have everything else with it. Im asking $120 for everything which is a huge discount off the $170 price especially since it looks brand new and was only tested. I will try and get some pictures up later today.
