http://www.frontierplay.com/KitchenDryBox
decided to try a river kitchen dry box
heard good things about them for the most part and read the owner is a good guy ? and the price was half of what other custom ones run
downside will be the weight ? upside one large item with handles and setup ! no extra prep table (we hope) everything in its spot and good to go outside our rig if we need to

our IGT stuff and cooking is working out great but the kitchen side is not working out so well :)

over last year we slowly changed the kitchen part

our one setup we kept for a while but took longer to setup was using a basket drawer system under the IGT
having our fridge inside is kinda nice sometimes but heavy to carry in ? so not something we do all the time
and the two brown rubbermaid held our food
downside setup time !
food was not air tight ?
dust would get to stuff to easy

how it was as of last trip the blue thing is a old kelty thing I use with plastic drawer inside to hold basics which works OK but no table in front and the top is to floppy to use for setting stuff on ?
its sitting on top of a REI thing that we use for basic stuff inside lights and first aid kit etc..still use our other 2 space IGT for prep
downside again setup time mainly with the IGT then setting up the REI thing to put the blue kitchen box on etc. and lack of larger prep area
can zip up for dust but not enough prep area

so waiting for our new kitchen box to come in :)
almost went with a Drifta setup which I really like but did not want anything with carpet stuff on it ? also the price was a bit much for the model I was looking at ? all aluminum and water proof seems like a good way to go if I need to pack it outside our rig
thoughts will be put the legs in and done ! shelf in front can act as a prep area and the top of it can hold plates or whatever we are getting ready
not going to bring our coleman hot water anymore ? we love it but just to large and bulky :( its times like this I miss the trailer ! :)
but came up with a great system using a siphon bulb like the river ones I have seen on partner steel which I will post later when I get it tweaked a bit more but really nice since you dont need hands to turn it on or off :)
long term plans might be if we get a new rig use a slide idea so we can use it from the back of the rig which my brain has kinda figured out already :)

I am in the process of designing some under-vehicle storage for tools/parts and similar bits that are not accessed very often. This will fit under the rear of the cruiser where the spare tire used to be. I had been looking at using 2 of the low lid bundu boxes, because they are fairly weather resistant, rectangular, and plastic. However, it seems it takes a small miracle to get them :) So, does anyone have any recommendations on a similar sized and constructed plastic box that might substitute? The 19.7" x 15.7" x 9" dimensions are just about perfect. Don't want to go much more than 9 or 10" tall. It would be nice if it would fit a quart of oil standing up. Could also be up to 30" wide. I was planning on using 2 of the low-lid bundu's side by side.

Anybody come across any military surplus or the like that would work?

Thanks!

Plans for a slide out tray system in the back of the Jeep

The wife and I have a newer generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. So I'm not trying to get too specific on the design yet but the only thing I need to mount in the back of the Jeep is an ARB fridge. The spare tire is inside the vehicle under the rear floor and will need to be accessible somewhat.

The wife wants it to not be over the top so I think drawers are out of the question. She wants to be able to head to the drive in theater and be able to lay down in the back area (we fold the rear seats down and lay out watching out the back hatch). If I installed a 6" drawer setup or something low like that, there would be a 6" drop off in the front area of the vehicle that would be uncomfortable to lay down. We don't plan on sleeping in the Jeep so it would only be a rare occasion.

Also, anything I put in the back would have to either slide out the back enough to be able to access the spare tire under it. Don't have any other ideas other than removing the entire setup in an emergency which doesn't sound fun.

I had originally thought of a "tray slide" like those on the new 4-runners. Once it slides out, the only thing sticking up would be the slide rails so that would be the only thing uncomfortable. I could have the tray slide out the back and then a false panel would be under it hiding the tire. That would give us something to lay our feet/legs on.

I went through a lot of threads over the past few days and every time I want to get a taller drawer system, I forget that it needs to be low-profile as per the wifey's request.

The tray would also be nice for everyday use. The plan is to bolt the refrigerator to the tray itself.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

OK as I have said before in other posts we are trying to go smaller lighter :)

we recently got some Helinox chairs and this last week got a chance to use them ! and they are great !
the one other thing we did was change how we carry and pack our gear

we had a couple duffel bags but also bought two XL TNF base camps and will be buying two more for the kids (they used our older style bags)
inside we now have our own sleeping bag and our own chair eno hammock etc.. and of course clothes shoes etc..
this way we can toss 4 packs on the roof all with light easy to manage stuff inside
kinda tired of the 4 sleeping bag bags and 4 pad bags and 4 loose chairs along with our 4 clothes bags !
so from 16 smaller bags to just 4 larger ones :)
we did try a large bag to hold the sleeping bags and another for the pads ? but still more a pain then you have empty bags to deal with ?
also when the bags are out the duffel bags are easy to look through for what clothes we want which are all now in packing cubes !

granted I used to stuff the sleeping bags and pads into spots in the back of the car after packing to fill in holes ! but that was kinda a pain and again way more work !
want to get our camp spread down to a few easy to pack and load items as possible

worked out great this last weekend !!

I did look/think about the watershed bags but wanted the larger D style opening of the TNF BC bags also they have a good rep !
also wanted something in camp that is easy quick to open close get in and out of rather than just on roof !
plus chances are will want my bags clean since we handle them so much getting in and out ?
might end up with a large thule box or something to put them in for easier and dust free storage and %100 water proof system and easier than straps :)

my next attack point is our kitchen setup ! not the IGT end that is solid and worth its weight in gold ! but the pans dishes and that stuff

also this was the first trip where I used all soft bags for things that go inside the car rather than Pelican cases I usually use :)
allowed me to get a bit more inside the car for sure and had no worries about them being damaged !

I know some others have done this method also ?

just curious what others have done this pack method of a single large bag for most of the stuff ?
