Julian, CA. ........A Snow Day

Headed up to Julian today for a fun relaxing day. They closed Hwy. 79.....so I just stayed around Julian and the surrounding area. Had some wonderful Apple Pie and Ice Cream, and coffee at the Julian Pie Company. Sat out on the deck and talked with the locals! ......Walked the town.....Toured the countryside!.........What a Wonderful Day!!!!!!!

Here are some pics. Hope you enjoy them!

Very nice!

That looks like an interesting town.

But where are the tequila stations? In a town like that, I'd feel the need to prop a leg up on a bar stool and chat with a cowboy. :p

Sunrise with Moon/star this morning around 5am.

Looking up my driveway. I want to learn how to do night shots.

MMMM hmmmm. There are several techniques to shooting at night. I've learned that shooting the moon - if you want a nice crisp one - is to not overestimate the shutter speed. To master shooting at night, you'll want to have manual control. The moon in particular is easy to turn into a fuzzy white blob because your shutter speed is too slow, believe it or not. The theory (or fact) is that since the moon is in direct sunlight, you need to expose for bright sunny conditions if you want a crisp moon...even though you're shooting at night or in low light.

Star trails? Another ball of wax I know nothing about. Except I've attempted some light trails from cars and airplanes landing before and learned that ambient city light is a **********. It might seem dark but leave that shutter open for a few seconds and you might end up with a photo that looks like it was shot in daylight.

If you learn anything, share it with this chump.

Thanks for the tips Mark!

Tonight I went out to the Torrey Pines Intl. Gliderport looking for some great sunset pics.

I had to settle for a heavy marine layer and action flight pics!;) ....YES!

I set the camera on "N" for natural light auto mode and just clicked away.....hard to keep up with these guys! The pics pop at full screen!

Enjoy!

Mystery Photo Quiz!..........

Natural Water is a very rare commodity in San Diego County!

I took these pics (with my new Fuji Finepix) late Sunday night as the marine layer was rolling in.

Can anyone guess where these pics of this Mystery Creek were taken?

Pacific Beach Early Summer!

Pacific Beach had an Early Summer today!

What a beautiful day!

You inland guys will love this!

Here are multiple random Beach Scene pics.

The Pier is called Crystal Pier and there are little motel cabins on it, for those of you who are not familiar with the area.

Watch for the seagulls that flew into the shot at the perfect moments!

I showed para~gliding the other day. Now we have para~surfing!

Enjoy!

You sucker. Pic 33 of 76....the essence of being Totally Tropical, or just one part of it?

Seriously, you're shooting a ton of photos. The para surfing is too cool!

Thanks for noticing Mark!

....and YES.....that is but one of the "Essence" of being "TotallyTropical"....!;)

I'm really starting to like my camera!

The hard part is uploading into my puter.

It does not automatically start a new file. It loads my new pics into an old file automatically. That's why you see "snowymtns" in the file names (old file)....but a different "album name" that I created for today's pics at Yahoo.

If you can make these pics go full screen......they just pop!

I know I need a better pic place than Yahoo......but that's all I've got right now. ....and I'm lucky I can figure Yahoo out!

Might I suggest pbase.com? That's a cool place. It's sort of community-like and people will post (tasteful and helpful) comments about your photos.

A Completed Trip.......

This is kind of a completed trip. But it was done on the very easy Apache Trail with a Buick!...hehe So does that count? I don't know, so I'm posting the pics at my new camera thread. My truck had to sit home because I didn't want to go blasting to Arizona at 75mph with a new engine.

Here are my Pics of the Apache Trail

...pics taken 4-24-06

It was kind of a hazy day, and I don't know how to deal with that yet.
