Earthroamer Bumper

Assuming you mean the aluminum bumper on the F series, not the Jeep:

Ute Ltd is the North American distributor of this bumper, it is actually made by a company in Australia called Bocar:

I am very impressed with the quality of this bumper, the front is 3/8" aluminum and can take a pretty hard hit without any problem. My wife hit a 3' diameter rock at about 20 mph, also a Toyota Hilux hit me pretty hard on a ferry in Tasmania without any issues.

Another option that I went with is a Buckstop Bumper made in Oregon. Mine has
survived a full sized deer hit as 50+ mph with barely a scratch.BTW, a lot less money.

A bumper similar to the Buckstop is the Reunel.
Below is one of their most basic models. I've seen Reunel's on central CA farm trucks for years. A friend totaled VW Rabbit with one, & it doesn't show it.

They are not aluminum though.

Not a van pic, but here is a picture of the Buckstop bumper on our F350 and our old camper. The Warn 16.5 winch and Piaa's fit perfectly.

I've got an ARB bumper and love it. I haven't hit anything, but anything that does come in contact with it will be sorry. Holds the M15000 great. Mark

Original Earthroamer bumper

The original (prototype) Earthroamer bumper was a custom job made by Layne Wright at Denver Offroad Bumpers.

He hand builds them one by one out of aluminum so they are very strong, very light and very customisable to what you need. Not a big company (just Layne) so not as well known as some of the other bumper companies mentioned here, but you get extremely personal service and an amazing end product.

He built the custom bumper for my F-650 expedition vehicle with a Warn 16.5ti and 4 integrate Hella lights. The top bar folds down to allow the hood to open forwards.

I met Layne through an intro from another ExPo member who had him build a bumper for his Dodge.

You can reach Denver Offroad at: (970)464-5566

Cheers,
Jay.

Jay's build has been mentioned in a few threads. The best one is below.

Thanks Bob!

Scott,

We've actually just updated the Eco-Roamer thread with the latest progress. I just visited Tulsa last week, so there's lots of new build pics.

It's still a work-in-progress, but hopefully someday soon we'll actually get out onto the 'road' and maybe be in the Overland Journal instead of just drooling on it...

Cheers,
Jay.

PS - Sorry to hi-jack the thread... Here's more bumper pictures!

For scale: those are 8" lights mounted in the centre!

This is the dead-bolt locking mechanism that allows the bull-bar to fold down so the hood can flop open.

Ute Ltd has discontinued the aluminum bullbars for sale in the US. Does anyone know where Earthroamer gets their current bumpers? I'm considering a full size truck and would prefer aluminum vs. steel.

Bob,
Funny you should ask that question - I was wondering the same thing. I don't know the answer, but there are several options that I would consider if I ever have to replace my Ute Ltd / Bocar front bumper:
Aluminess: http://www.aluminess.com/trucks.htm

Ali -Arc: http://www.aliarc.com/

Excel: http://www.excelaguard.com/

I like the Excel the best, I think it is the most similar to the Ute/Bocar, the Aluminess front bumper looks odd to my eye, although I like their rear bunper. There are a lot of Ali Arc bumpers up here (made in Canada) unfortunately the ones I have seen on pickups are no where near as cool as the one shown above on the Volvo.

I like the allied steel pipe based bumpers out of TX the best. My Bodyguard bumper matches schedule 10 pipe with 11 gauge diamond plate and 2" light bars for some serious front end protection. It weighs 300lbs w/o a winch.

The Ranchhands (also out of TX) are built a little more stout (schedule 40 pipe + 12 ga) but are more massive and weigh more. IMO you can't go wrong with either and will clear a deer at highway speeds, no problemo.
