My 22 gal tank couldn't be filled in one go when gas was $4.50 most stations cut off at $75 and I even had one stop at $60. Found out this was the station and not my card.
Winnebago, room for everything and everyone, skip the tents and fancy gear, beds bath kitchen,no one said overland had to be off-road!

From you have said, I would stick with A/T, better road manners and you don't seem to need that much traction. A good A/T will take you almost anywhere.
Most people have never rode in a tank, so the assume it rides rough cause it looks rough.

Anything near the coast is liable to have worse salt issues than from the mountains. Central NC is a safe bet, not much salt here.
