Depends what you want to use it for of course...for a significant weight savings I might consider a 2-ply sidewall.
Wouldn't it be simpler to use a half-wave antenna?
In terms of size, my 40 quart Engel is bigger than I need for myself.
Budget aside, I would get an ARB or Engel, with a slight edge to ARB for their customer service. Quality pays in the long run.
It was built by a guy with the moniker onebadtrooper on Planet Isuzoo, must be over a decade ago. Haven't seen him around there for a long time, unfortunately. The jerry can swingout was built by a...
Neither one has enough room for me, so I got a Trooper. Strong like 4Runner, cheap like XJ. :D
Very nice trip, thanks for the report!
I have a 40 quart, and it is bigger than I need for myself. Probably would work well for a couple.
Do you carry the Oz tent inside or strap it on top? One of the reasons I shied away from the Oz tent was how long it is when folded up.
Hey, matching Kenwoods!
Thanks for the pic, I am definitely leaning toward doing the in-dash install.
Another cheap upgrade is to replace the sway bar bushings. For like $50 it really tightens up the handling.
Awesome, thanks. Did you do anything special to mount it? Looks like it is 6.3" wide, so I guess a 3/8" shim on each side might do the trick. What about a bezel?
I found a relevant discussion of this issue: http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php?topic=88348.0
I think I will try this, eventually.
Action Packers kind of suck IMO, they don't really do anything well. They leak in the rain, they get brittle in cold or with age, they aren't really strong enough (for my fat ***) to sit on, their...
That's a good place for it. I don't have a convenient cubby like that though in the FJC.
Yeah... in my Trooper I have the 2M screwed to the side of the center console, which actually works pretty well... except I can't slide the passenger seat all the way forward if needed. The CB is in...
With the speaker on front this seems like a viable option. The FJC has a double din factory stereo, toying with the idea of installing a single DIN stereo and a Kenwood 281 in that space. The Kenwood...
Not that I am aware of, but then I have a manual transmission.
Here is some tech info on page 3 about rebuilding a 4L30E that might be helpful if you are trying to fix one:
Yeah my Engel (MR040) doesn't use much juice at all. Engel told me it would average about 1 amp, and in my experience it hasn't even used that much. Though like you I don't live in a desert or...
They are both good rigs, just depends what you want to do with it.
Some of them had a LSD, look for a G80 code on the firewall option plate in the engine compartment.
The 2.6L doesn't like overheating. If it has been taken care of in that respect it is a very...
5W30 is what the manual says, although in AZ maybe you want something heavier. Here in MN I do use 5W30 Mobil One.
Although my Trooper is all built up I agree with you there is no need to go...
Hole in the Rock trail
5 grand is plenty to buy a solid Trooper and build it. Tires will be your biggest expense, a Trooper can fit 33s with even just an inch of lift. So rear lift coils, probably from OME, crank the front...
