The miners went much wider than we were comfortable seeing. That's a lot of mountain being held up by sticks. I'll post more of this area when we return.
Here are yesterdays pictures. We were underground for hours and miles and still haven't seen all these mines have to offer. We'll return shortly.
Learning rope techniques isn't as difficult as it may seem. It's mostly about developing good habits. I'll admit that my habits are minimalist at best. I need to work on that.
Just wanted to share a little more.
More pictures from within an hours drive of the Vegas Strip. No story to add. They're all starting to look the same to me.
Just wanted to update for those still interested. These were all taken within an hour of the Vegas Strip. Lots of interesting history out here to explore.
I saw side mounts were popular in South America, but I only saw them mounted on the driver side. Probably so the driver could keep an eye on clearance.
Glad you're enjoying the pictures and glad you're viewing them from a safe distance. Mine exploration isn't difficult. I hope I wasn't giving the impression that there's a trick to it. Other than...
Forgot to mention the 1.5" spacers. The tires would not clear without them. It's not low. I took that picture this morning just as the sun was coming up and my street is on an incline. It just...
Lift went on yesterday and got the tires mounted and balanced at 5:30AM on a Sunday. Vegas never closes. The guy was drinking warm beer, but it was cold this morning. I've just never seen someone pop...
No way! I moved from Jacksonville 5-6 years ago! I lived off 103rd St. on the westside of town and also Chimney Lakes in the back of Argyle Forest. I'm so homesick. Just seeing you're from...
Also, your first set of coordinates appear to be of the Mormon Well trail system. The mines off Fort Apache are around these coordinates: 36° 3'7.88"N 115°18'59.18"W.
The mines in that area...
From the La Madre side of Rocky Gap, there is now an ugly rock garden on the other side of the peak. It's passable with a high clearance stock vehicle, but you should be prepared for some thumping. ...
If we can make schedules meet, I'll definitely show you some of my favorite sites.
I enjoy the history and the feeling that I'm holding something that hasn't been touched in 100+ years. Then I...
You Stupid Bunny rules! LOL Who is this?
Or you could use a couple hours of vacation time and fly in. We could take a day or two getting underground and you'll still have more than enough vacation left to lose all your money in a casino. ...
Last picture for now and it made my day. If there was an ore cart there, I probably would have hurt myself riding it down this curving incline shaft rail. It's one of the most unique rails I've...
I've been in hundreds of mines over the years. A floating ore cart track is something new to me.
This was one of two air pressure tanks we found deep within the mine. Whoever built it was a talented welder. The welds looked like stacked dimes. It was one of the larger tanks we've come across...
My favorite part of exploring mines is when I see ore cart tracks still in place. Most tracks in mines are removed or stolen. Getting into this mine was difficult, so the tracks were left right...
All ore lead to here. The lower ore hopper. From there, ore was trucked to a larger mining mill for processing.
A closer look at the ore chute and tramway remnants.
Mining seems to have begun at this highest level. The collar shaft fed to this ore chute and hopper. You can barely see the cable to the aerial tramway which lead to the lower ore hopper in the...
Here's another mine we visited today in Southern Nevada less than an hours drive from the Strip. This mine spanned several miles over different claim sites. This is the largest of the claim sites.
