Default One hundred 2005-2006 Land Cruiser 4.5 Brutus diesel pick-ups?

This sounds like it might be a pain in the neck to actually acquire, but on the other hand, it sounds like one of those rare opportunities you always wished you could find out about.

I'm not making this up!
I have a friend who knows a guy who's into the auto import business, He is about to come across over 100 US Military maintained, Land Cruiser "Brutus" Diesels. Most of these are retired UN vehicles. These are 2005 - 2006 model year vehicles.

http://www.markettoyota.co.za/Specif...us_(2006).aspx

If you are interested, send me a PM and I'll forward to you the contact info of the guy who knows a guy who might make this all happen :-)

So, these are going to be for sale to US citizens? Individually?

Which side is the steering wheel on?
How the heck are these going to get thru customs, NHTSA, etc?

Those are HZJ75 pickups. There are all over the place here in Central America. I saw one rotting in the corner of a local mechanic shop today (almost enough to make you cry!).

HZJ79 actually. They'll be admissible to Canada in 10 years if nothing changes and to the USA in 20 or so.

Lowenbrau I know you know your stuff, but those front ends look suspisciously like a 75 Ute, not the 79. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the 79 have the wider front clip and different headlights (part of the reason I LOVE 75's or OLDER 70 series, I like the pointy hood)??? I'm sure I'm wrong, but I thought...

Cheers

Dave

Are they perhaps Bunderas rather than "Brutus"?

No, it is a 79 series.

It changed from the 75 series Troopcarrier and 75 series cab chassis to the 78 series Troopcarrier and 79 series cab chassis in August 1999, but the wider front chassis rails and different front panels didn't happen in the 78/79 until the 1VD-FTV 4.5 Litre (single) turbo diesel V8 was introduced for the model in February/March 2007.

So, same pointy hood in the 78/79 as the 75 up until 2007, but with slightly different grill/indicators.
