This is true, but the real reason why these are not sold in the US is because the Big Three have effectively lobbied Washington to keep the Chicken Tax in effect for 50+ years. Why would Mitsubishi bother investing in US crash and emissions testing if crony capitalism means their products will be taxed sufficiently to make a base model Triton cost as much as an Escalade?Iirc they first need to meet federal crash standards which means they must first be tested locally to confirm compliance. That means one sacrificial unit has to be imported for just the testing. Then there may be additional smog emissions requirements depending on your local state laws.
