ARB Awning

Traded our Fiamma for the ARB. Wanted a larger awning. Went from 6 foot to 8 foot. We will keep our Fiamma on the Horizon. Should make a good combo. Anyways, we're lucky to have a full length INTI rack.. the awning fits perfect and doesn't hang off a mile like most rigs i've seen.

Anyways, here are the pics.. not super thrilled with the quality.. but it will work.

So would your initial impression be that the Fiamma is a little bit better made than the ARB? I realize field testing is still to come.

I have a line on an Eezi Awn Awning for sale, but I like the simplicity of the Fiamma. I got to handle one at a trade show and I really liked the ease of opening, leveling and closing the Fiamma.

BTW, nice bartering. I knew you'd figure out a way to get around 'the lockdown.' ;)

Yes, without a doubt the Fiamma is the better awning.

As far as field testing..I believe the ARB will not fair well in wind. The Fiamma doesn't budge when anchored properly with the guy lines. I will report back on the ARB in windy conditions.

Im going to run this ARB into the ground then switch to a 8 foot Fiamma when it's in the budget.

Any chance you've run across an Eezi Awn Awning? Wondering how they rate vs. the ARB vs. the Fiamma....?

Have yet to see one in person. But looks similar to the Fiamma with the heavy duty Vinyl. I would make sure to see it in person before you buy (unless you get a smoking deal, then who cares). Because they all look good in pictures, but in person it can be a different story.

Agreed... My isolated location has its benefits and occasionally it's drawbacks....:(

Maybe the Overland Journal staff will do an awning review at some point.

Thanks for the intel Dave. Hope you'll get out to test out your new ARB soon - :1888fbbd:

Looks good.
I almost sprang for the Fiamma 35 Pro, but I went with another one that was less, I could not pass it up.

Time will tell how it fairs.
I may get a Fiamma still one day.

I would have to measure mine, not sure of the length of it.

I have the same awning rebadged by ayet another company, and I have been happy with it thus far. The only thing I have had trouble with is the twist lock/cam feature on one of the poles, apparently I over-tightened one, and it took me about an hour to get it loose again. And, its klind of a pain to set it up by yourself. It can be done, but is much easier with two people.

I have had mine set-up for 5 nights straight while camping in Sweden, and had a pretty nasty storm blow through on one of the evenings. It held up quite well to ~30mph wind. My shower enclosure didnt fair so well though...

Corey, that looks like a 6 footer based on how long the FJ cruiser is.

Camping Lab dimmentions are as follows:

Campinglab expedition awnings are made of 300D polyester with PVC coating and aluminum structure. All joints are high resistance plastic and all bolts are galvanized.
Our expedition awnings cover an area of 85"X79" and can be set as high as 83" on the poles side.
Campinglab awnings come with a very sturdy aluminum extrusion on the back which makes it very easy to attach the awning to any roof rack or even load bar ends.
Our awnings weight 22 pounds and fold into a 7"X4"X83" protective cover which closes with a heavy zipper keeping the awning clean and dust free regardless of conditions.
Campinglab expedition awnings have 2 adjustable guylines and 4 heavy duty ¼" galvanized steel stakes which hold everything in place even under moderate winds.

ARB Touring Awning:

96"x78"

26lbs.

The awning is one of my next purchases, I'm in the process of modifying my roof rack to accept the ARB. If you don't mind, what's the center to center of the mounting holes? I know it's adjustable, but I'm curious what width you went... And are there one or two bolts per mount?
