Default Ruby Rd. Southern AZ. (pic heavy)

We headed down I-19 towards Nogales yesterday morning to get out of town for a bit. Everyone bailed out so we ran the trip solo.

We stopped in Tubac to drop into the Santa Cruz River for a short break under the Sycamore's.

I think this one was stalking us!

We then made our way over to Pena Blanca Lake. It was drained last year due to excessive levels of mercury. They scraped all of the soil from the bottom and put in some man made fish habitat's. They are allowing it to refill now, if we ever get some damn rain!

There is always something interesting to see near the border.

more to come!!!

From the lake we headed out Ruby Rd. on our way to Arivaca.

Lunch time!!!!!

Shortly after our luch stop we came across the Brown Vine Snake on the road. He was about 5' long!

Next stop Arivaca Lake. I had never been here before but it sure looked like the lake was really low.

After a stop at the Arivaca Mercantile for refreshments, we headed up the highway back toward Amado. We turned off on a dirt road that took us all the way west to Sasabe Hwy.

Kitt Peak in the background right above the Xterra.

Saw this old rusty can off the side of the road and thought it would make a good shot.

So, there you have it. A long drive but the weather was nice. The second leg of the trip from Amado to Sasabe Hwy was pretty desolate but Ruby Rd. was a beatiful drive throught the Atascosas Mtns.

Thanks for sharing the photos. The route looks like a
possibility for first timers attending the Overland Expo
next April.

It would be perfect, you don't need 4wd and it is very scenic. There are also quite a few other offshoots that could be explored and may require 4wd for the more adventurous.
