Bought a 2009 M1101 Trailer and Now What ?

Well, I had this grand scheme of getting this trailer for my 2013 Jeep Wrangler 2dr 3.6L w/lift kit for trails and camping.

After pulling it home Tuesday 325 miles, I find the darn thing way to heavy.

I'm looking for suggestions on what to do or do I need to sell it and find a smaller trailer ?

I would even consider a trade at this point ?

Or should I get rid of the wheels and axle, go smaller tires, maybe 33's and reduce the hitch weight ?

I'm just thinking out loud and looking for suggestions ?

Its very hard to find the smaller trailer M416 but that would be the right size for pulling behind a 2 dr Jeep. I have the 4 dr and it makes pulling my M101 A2 alot easier. the M101 A2 is a little less than 100lbs lighter then your M1101. although you can lose weight doing what you mentioned but your still going to be over 1200lbs I think, and being empty at that its still heavy. Maybe try to sell it, make a profit and find a smaller trailer for offroading and camping. heres a link with some details on two diff trailers, 3rd post down. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/21240-US-M1101-Trailer-3-4-Ton-Question

Is it titled and regestered? Much easier to sell.

Craigslist and ebay are good places to list it for sale as is steel soldiers.com

If you got a good deal you can turn a nice profit selling it.

Do you have the bows, tarps and all landing legs?

That increases the price too.

Did you tow it home with the cover on? if so they act like a sail and hinder pulling alot.

Post some pictures.

Thanks for the responses....

It has everything, rails, tarp, it's in fine condition and looks almost brand new !

I just ordered the SR97 form and hope to have it titled shortly.

I agree, prob best to sell it and buy or trade for a smaller trailer.

Harley,
I towed it with the tarp on for about 20 miles and said forget this...pulled over and removed the tarp. Ya, it's like trying to pull a wind sail with an anchor tied to it, geez that was rough !

Get the SF97 forms and all regestration done. Have it legal with a plate.
Change the bulbs out to LED and change the plug to a flat 4 or barrel 7
You could change out the wheels to newer GM 2500hd and shorter 16" tires and use it around town.

See how it pulls with the jeep. I think it is too heavy and wide to be of comfort behind the jeep.

Thanks Harley,

I found that same info, but thought the jeep could pull it.

Ya, I plan to change the bulbs out and I already have the plugs.

Going to change the wheels and wait until the title goes thru. I will prob sell it since it is too much and I wanted one to tow camping/4 wheeling jeep

Thanks for taking the time !!
