Default Calgary via UT/AZ to NW & W. Mexico to PV - Mid Sept to late Nov/2008

Anyone want to tag along for parts of this trip or the whole thing, let me know.

BTW looking for best GPS (Garmin compatible) coverage of this area, please let me know who has it.

Planning stages now - Calgary to SLC (Paul?/Kurt?) to Mexican Hat, UT to Moenkopi, AZ east to Canyon de Chilly (north route out), south to Lupton west to Flagstaff, to Prescott (Scott?/Chris?), to Mesa (Wil?)/Chandler (Mark?), south to Tucson (David?) to Douglas - MX Casa Grande (Paqime ruins), Mata Ortiz (pottery), Madera (more ruins), Basaseachi Falls, Creel - Barranca Del Cobre (Copper Canyon), El Divisadero, San Rafael, Cuiteco, Bahuchivo then a decsion, help out if you can:

Mesa Colorada, Temoris, Palmarejo, El Guamuchil, Chinipas, Lalobera, Las Chinacas, Lost Tanques, Alamos, El Fuerte, Los Mochis (Edmundo?)

    OR

From Bahuchivo to Cerocahui, Mesa Arturo to Choix and then Los Mochis.

    Which is better, safer, easier?

From Los Mochis south along coast (off toll roads), La Penita (Brian?), RDG (Chelito?), Los Alyos (Scotty?) to Puerto Vallarta (Jim?) eventually.

Home west via Ajijic (Gordon?) and north to Zacatecas and I am open to suggestions to get me to El Paso crossing.

Then north to Gilla Cliff Dwellings, NM, El Morro, El Malpais, Acoma, Petroglyphs Park north of Albuquerque, Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks, Bandelier (both sides), west to Chaco, north to Aztec, NM then north to Mesa Verde (west side only), Montecello, UT, Moab, Green River, Price, Duchesne, Vernal (petroglyphs), west side of Flaming to Rock Springs, north to Yellowstone and on to Kanuckistan.

Any suggestions, please feel free to add.

I'm about 9hrs South in Helena, MT. You are welcome to stay here, or I could show you an awesome place to camp. If nothing else you should stop by and have a beer at the blackfoot brewery. World class beer made by very good people.

When you pass through the neighborhood, which I'd say would be a 400 mile radius, I'm down.

    Jan,

    Lets see what i think are your best options;

You have to do Basaseachic, Creel, and Divisadero. Depending on how many days you plan to stay in The Tarahumara, there are some other places that you should visit, we can talk about that later.

Once you get to San Rafael the best two options as you describe is to go either via Temoris-Alamos or Tubares-El Fuerte or to put it another way you go down and cross the Chinipas river without a bridge or El Fuerte River with a bridge, In May you should be able to cross the Chinipas river without a problem.

I like the Tubares route better for the sole reason that its shorter and will allow you to stay more days in the high sierra, so its really up to you. If you have some days to spare the hot ticket will be to do San Rafael-Temoris-Chinipas-San Bernardo-Alamos-El Fuerte-Los Mochis.

You are very welcome in Los Mochis and can arrange any lodging that you need (Free of course). i can also arrange a full mechanical checkdown while we go deep sea fishing .

    Saludos

We'll be in Grenada end of April - beginning of May. When you come through Flagstaff/Sedona send a message, if we're around, lets get a campfire going Plenty of room here.

Thanks Kurt, looking forward to it. Also might need some tips to get the Helton installed so I can use it on this long haul. Jan
