DIY Van roof rack.

There is a thread on here ( different section ) about roof racks, I am going to build a roof rack soon. And was looking into the gutter mounts.

Do you think these would work for a Ford van?

Check out Off Road Unlimited. I have their gutter mounts on my 12' roof rack. Very easy to use and stable.

You used the land rover gutter mount towers?

If you are making your own rack, I wouldn't bother with gutter clamp mounts like those. The Quigly roof rack (no longer made) has the best mounting system I've seen. Just run a tube the full length of the cutter, and clamp that.
Pic's weren't taken to show the mounting, but you should get the idea.

Yea, I wanna build something like that. I want it to be able to support 2-3 people when we are watching the races. Plus I am going to put a classic bag awning on the side of it. Maybe find some kind of quick release for the awning too.

Even though they are a little pricey, I might go this route. Thanks!

45 degree land cruiser mounts

How much clearance do you have between the roof rack and the centerline of your roof? Would the 1 inch shorter 30/60 mounts have cleared?

I cut them down so it would sit almost on the roof for a lower profile. I think it would be a great fit on the 30/60's. the guy is now located in denver and real nice guy and easy to work with...

Did you end up building the roof rack? If so what did you end up using to mount it and how did it work?

when I did mine, I got some ladder racks from the junk yard and used the clamps off them.
