Saudi Northern Expedition

Hello everyone, some of you may know me from different forums. But I would like to share with you our trip that we did here in Saudi last year.

All the routes have been plotted for future access. However, the I6 is not suitable for overland travel. yes it's an excellent motor and all but the fuel consumption is the ultimate draw back. I have been in a few areas where I was low on fuel. (that's the reserve fuel). luckily we didn't have any big issues.

anyways, here are some pics for you to enjoy.

That day didn't end very well. We got locked down by the border patrol. they asked us to turn around and head back. it seems that 30km away from the Saudi/Jordan boarder is not far enough. so we had to take another route that we had as back up (it's always good to have a backup plan for remote travel like this). It got late at night and me leading the team and navigating, there was no way for me to take pictures. we showed up in Haqel sometime around 8PM. refueled the rigs and brought our water and food storage back to level. Here are some shots from the city in the early morning. you will notice that we are doing a quick repair on the tire of the JK. nothing bad just a quick patch to fix the air leak.

a few miles away we stopped by this US airplane. story has it that the retired General of the Air Force flew his plane and landed there. then had some issues and left it there. and so people here (given their really high education) decided to decorate it. this is at least 40+ years old. pretty cool finding.

As an engineer, I have mad respect for those people who hand carved those tombs by hand, with nothing but basic tools. goes to show that if there is will, there will be a way. absolutely stunning!

Absolutely stunning images. Look at that canyon!

Did the stock Jeep perform well for the conditions? Starting to get warm over there too.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm documenting the landscape of the area as we move a long so that many of you who would like to visit could benefit from it.

Indeed it did. We didn't go into anything major. Nothing extreme. It was mainly getting to know our surroundings as a group. But the JK did great. I think a different set of tires would probably be best for it. The fuel consumption was excellent on the JK.

We have a few other trips coming back. Next one will probably take us south.
