I have heard good things about these designs
    #1 being weight and simplicity!

I have also seen it done with a Fosters Oil Can

These home made alcohol stoves are quite popular with backpackers who aim to travel light. There are regular threads on the topic on TLB
    http://www.backpacking.net/bbs.html

I've been using a Swedish Tragia cookset for a number of years - this one that comes with two pots plus windscreen and stand. The burner itself is a little brass cup, about three inches across. It is hard to beat the simplicity of this type of stove.

Alcohol burners also come in a size large enough to heat water for a whole dog team, and burn a couple of bottles of HEET per use. Fairbanks mushing supply shops carry these.

Has to be one of the neatest things I have seen in a long time. Even my wife thought that was pretty cool.
