Coleman Colorado Frankenstein Trailer Project

Just about camp-ready. I got the fold down dinette squared away this weekend along with a few other odds and ends. It’s just about ready to camp. The maiden voyage is Devil’s den State Park in AR the first weekend in May. I might have to do a shakedown run prior to May to see what I am forgetting.

Here are a couple shots of the table set up. I still haven’t decided how to finish off the table top. I’m thinking maybe a map of the US with a heavy varnish coating. I’m not real happy with how the table support works. It’s made for a boat table and is a little wobbly. Still needs some work to make it more stable.

This is how the camper will be set-up most of the time. My wife will have the smaller forward birth and I will stick with the converted dinette. We may set the table up if it rains for an extended period of time and we want to play cards.

This is how the Coleman will look in travel mode. While at home I have another tarp that goes over the travel cover. Still to come, storage box for the leveling equipment, Coleman decals, mud flaps, and figure out some sort of shade fly attachment.

Spent the weekend working on some finishing touches. I had some sheet aluminum bent up to make the corner trim. Some cutting and shaping and each corner of the trailer has a finish cap. You can also see the Coleman decal in this picture. I’m considering adding vinyl lettering below Coleman - “Colorado” in script and “M116A3” in stencil.

Some quarter round glued and nailed in place finishes out the interior. I used a waterproof plastic product that cuts, sands, nails and apparently is paintable just like wood.

I think I need a bigger truck!
Yeah pretty awesome indeed... corners and decal really make it look factory. Trailer lurking underneath...not so much!!

Only camped in it one time so far. We stayed two nights at Devils Den S.P. in Arkansas. We have a camp-out planned for the weekend after Labor Day and hopefully a few more times this fall. No real good “action” shots. Pulls easily behind the Tacoma, effects fuel mileage but not as badly as I had predicted.

Hey John,

No new news with the Colorado. We've camped in it a couple times this fall. I like not having to roll-up and pack away a ground tent at the end of a weekend. I’ve temporarily installed a couple deep cell marine batteries. This spring I will wire them in permanently with lighting and 12v outlets. Here are a couple shots crossing the Current River at Akers Ferry near Jadwin, MO

The addition of a trailer means we can bring just that much more crap when we camp. At a recent Bass Pro Outdoor Days event at Table Rock Lake.
