I finally found another one to replace the one I got rid of like an idiot.

Meet Clifford. 2001 3500 24valve, vn4500,3.55:1, 150 hp injectors, edge juice with additude, south bend dual disk clutch, wheel work on the turbo, some work on the vp pump as well yada yada yada. I picked this one up in may and have finally made a decision on which way to go with it.

The plan has unfolded to build it into a multi purpose rig.
1) daily driver
2) tow pig
3) camping/expodition rig
4) work horse

First mod was to get this thing a little more trail friendly. Clifford got new shoes 285/75r16 bfg ko on ford alcoa wheels.

Rough plans for the bed. Still not sure on the headache rack yet but I'll figure it out as I go. I always change my plans on stuff so I'm not to worried about bailing off into it with a concrete idea. I am also going to add a winch in the front of the bed and a set of gin poles cause I hate not being able to move stuff when I want to.

Some progress on the flatbed over the weekend and today... Got all the frame work done for the floor and headache rack over the weekend. Went to Davis steel and picked up the rest of the steel today and hav some shear work done to save me some work and time. Still have some brace work to do on the floor and headache rack. Then to skin the bottom of the headache rack finish out the fenders, lights, high lift mount and build the deck boxes on all four corners. Also picked up a 5"x36" stack and some of my exhaust bends and a 4" to 5" adapter. Stay tuned more to come.

Started putting the floor on the bed and got the fenders boxed in. I am relocating the fuel filler neck into little triangular the area between the headache rack and the brace. All four corners of the bed will be wet storage boxes with lockable lids and punch plate floors. These boxes will be used for straps and chains stuff the weather won't damage.

Thats really nice workmanship, I like the conversion from dually to single, looks like it will be really nice when finished. I will be watching as this progresses!

Cheers,

Ehren

Well I finally got the plumbing disaster all squared away in the house... Damn city workers. Today I had time to get my exhaust built finally. The whole job went really smooth other than my welder deciding it needed to tap out on me but a quick call to a co worker and I was back in business. Started off with a Diamond Eye down pipe because it was cheaper to buy than build. From there I welded on a v- band clamp to couple it to a 48" stick of straight 4". Band clped that into a 45* then welded in a couple of 90* bends and terminated it under the bed with another v-band clamp. From the deck I started with my 4"-5" adapter then a 36"x5" stack. Turned out great I think. Lowered my EGT at cruze speed about 150*. The turbo response is twice as fast and it sounds like an old Kizer Duce with a "whistler" turbo on it. Daddy Red is happy happy happy!

Oh no! Stack AND tow mirrors out! I can see where this is headed!:sombrero:

I was raised by a Truck drivin' Teamster Union member... Diesel is in the blood... Come on.

But in all seriousness the mirrors will flip down but the glass won't adjust it is unfortunately frozen up. I did the stack for a purpose I have smashed a tail pipe almost completely shut backing up on the trail before resulting in the pipe being shoved forward and taking out the collector on the exhaust manifoldof the truck I was in. After that happened I have made it a point to not ever run rear exit exhaust system again. Every truck I own is either dumped under the bed well clear of being damaged or like now has a stack on it. Say what you will but there is a method to my madness.

calm down you old fuddy-duddy

:ylsmoke:

You did notice the sarcasm icon, no?

I've been spending time on Cumminsforum lately where every second thread became heated debate on mirrors, or stacks. I have no issue with either, except that stacks won't work with my camper, thus are not a consideration for me.

The truck is coming along nicely Red. Is the stack base welded to the deck? It looks very clean! Joined below with flex pipe might be an idea? I'm not sure how much flex you'll see, but could be a cracking issue on the trail.
