The Skinny:
2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 (5.3L)
Regular cab, long bed
66K miles, $11,495

The Backstory:
Well, it appears I screwed up. This great truck was going to be our main vehicle (for both around town and camping road trips). But my girlfriend is not digging it as a daily driver and wants something smaller (maybe a Tacoma?). So it’s gotta go . . .

I bought this recently, then made sure it was mechanically updated and 100% reliable (the only essential it will need in the near future is a set of tires). Plus I added a top of the line canopy and bed liner. It’s a blank canvas for a great work / camping / hunting / adventure truck. (The long bed makes it possible to have a 6' sleeping platform and still have room at the end to put on your shoes in the morning. I was going to do a u-shaped platform that had a bench on one side.)

I've mostly been an import guy, but I must say the Chevy 5.3L engine is stellar: plenty of power and consistently great mileage (like 19 and 20mpg on the highway).

The Highlights:
  • 4WD (shift on the fly)
  • Automatic, 4-speed transmission
  • Proven Chevy 5.3L engine (1500 series)
  • Stellar fuel economy (19 - 20 mpg highway)
  • Massive 36 gallon fuel tank gives this rig a 600-700 mile range (I will miss this for sure!)
  • Power windows, power door locks, dual climate controls (rare on a two-door truck like this)
  • New A.R.E. MX-series (mid-height) canopy with dual locks
  • Full BedRug in bed
  • Locking tailgate with lowering assist (shock-dampened)
  • Mechanically sound; recent inspection, fluid changes, new front brakes (pads and rotors), new Bilstein front shocks, new spare tire winch (a common issue with these trucks)
  • Cloth seats
  • 66K miles (will change, as I'm driving it daily)

My Recent Cash Dumps, er, Investments (over $4,000!!):
  • Brand new A.R.E. MX (mid-height) canopy with dual locks: $2274.00
  • Tailgate seal: $45.00
  • Tailgate lock: $35.00
  • Tailgate EZ Down: $35.00
  • BedRug (velcro attached and completely removable): $450.00
  • New front Bilstein shocks + alignment: $489.75
  • Repaired (and permanently fixed) spare tire hoist: $337.50
  • New front brakes and rotors: $380.95
  • Complete fluid change (plus recent oil change): $406.54

The truck is located in Bend, Oregon (central Oregon). However, I love road trips so there's a good chance we can arrange FREE delivery to many areas of the West (sorry Kansas).
That price again: $11,495
