MacWorld's benchmark testing showed for pedestrian tasks involving a single CPU core, a well equipped iMac is faster than the new Mac Pro.

But on benchmarks with heavy computing (Final Cut Pro, Photoshop) or that test multiple cores, the Mac Pro was as much as 2 times faster than any Mac the magazine has tested.

So buyers should definitely think carefully about how often they use applications that will utilize the Mac Pro's full capabilities.

Dell just introduced a high resolution display that might be an option for the new Mac Pro. The monitor boasts a 3840 x 2160 pixel display, the so-called 4K resolution used by the next video standard. Price is $699; delivery starts at the end of January.

I say "might be an option" because Dell didn't announce the type of interface cable they use. The Mac Pro has Thunderbolt 2 ports to connect displays.

Hard to say if the Dell 28" 4K will work or not until more info is available, but that blurb says it "...offers the same remarkable Ultra HD screen performance as the Dell UltraSharp 32 and Dell UltraSharp 24 Ultra HD Monitors.", and AnandTech tested the MacPro with the Dell 24" 4K monitor and discovered that it only runs at 30hz at 3840 x 2160, which is NOT good for gaming, or half that at 60 hz (1920 x 2160 with a mess of garbled colors). This appears to be a software issue within the monitor itself, so perhaps they will update them to run properly in OSX at 4K & 60 Hz.
