Recomendations on tire size

I have a 05 f150 supercab 4 wheel drive and I want to explore the back roads of Vermont and Maine. I am currently running with 265/70/17. Should I go up to a larger tire either a 33 or 35 and how much lift should I put on?

285/70/17 is only 1" over all diameter taller than a 265/70/17. Plenty of options in that size. I run those on my 05 Sierra and generally like the size.

I have 285/70/17 BFG AT's on an 04' F150 super-crew. They fit perfect with only a leveling spacer in the front. I wouldn't go much bigger without a gear change. The gas mileage is bad enough, I cant imagine with even bigger tires.

285/75 r17 is what I'd shoot for. 33" seems perfect on a level F150. I'm putting 295/75 r17 Cooper STT's on my truck with a Carli 2.5" Starter kit this spring.

How about a P255/75R17 in either a Goodyear SilentArmor or a Firestone Destination AT?

32.1" Tire, no lift required.

I used to take my F150 on all kinds of back roads with 31" SilentArmors and I never needed anything more.

My Duratracs do everything better than my Silentarmors did. If you like the SA's, you'll love the DT's. But they obviously may not last as long. Got 55,000 out of my SA's.

I've heard good things about the DT. In this case I would have had to get an LT-rated which would have been overkill for my unloaded F150, IMO.

Side note, Walmart has their GY Authority, another AT/MT hybrid that looks promising.

You should check what gearing you have first.I also have 265/70.17s on my 2009.I like them.My son runs 285/70 on his 2006 and we go every where with both trucks.Sure there not rock crawlers, but there full size trucks!!!:ylsmoke:

I ran 285/75-17 Toyo A/T II's Xtreme with a 2" leveling block up front, and had the 157" WB:
