Airstream in Dwell Magazine

Even after 75 years, the Airstream trailer is a design that feels more from the future than the present. Dwell Magazine captures some forward-looking Airstream interiors.

The examples chosen by Dwell tend to be fixed in place (a backyard retreat, a vacation home). But many of the ideas shown would work in a trailer on the move, too. Remember that Airstream caravans traveled all over the world in the 1950s, under road conditions that are considerably more primitive than we face today.

Maybe it's time for an Overland Journal Airstream project, updating one of the smaller trailers (16 ft Bambi?) to modern standards for a "long way round" sort of overland adventure.

Start with a trailer like this one

Add a new trailing arm suspension and Multi-axis hitch coupler,
update the appliances, maybe add solar panels and a wind generator,
improve the ability to filter and sanitize water from outback sources,
and add camp chairs!

A new or vintage Ram Power Wagon would make a great tow vehicle.
