Hi everybody.

It's time to present us, Pierre, Theresa and Ursul.

I am from Québec, Theresa from Switzerland and Ursul, the German, has spent his first life as a Fire truck in Switzerland.

We all live in Gruyère region, Switzerland.
We plan to leave next August for a few years around the world. Although not very big, we need some comfort if we want to travel that long. The dificulty is to define what is important for our comfort. Simplicity and reliability is crucial.

We have Ursul for 2 years now, it was a simple camper, used for holidays

We had tought to upgrade the firetruck box but finally decided to remove it.

Ursul has spent the summer at Ormocar in Germany. It was supposed to be ready in August but little was done then.

In October, it was finally ready. Ormocar had been late but we are very happy with their job.

The big side opening in the back let us feel outside from the living/dining/sleeping room in the back

The cabin is empty, here is the kitchen corner in the front with the passage to the cab.

The work can start, first job, the Lewmar roof window over the entrance/shower/toilet room.

Let's continue,
I have started the carpentry in the living room.
09.JPG10.JPG11.JPG

The main closet is the separation between the living room and the Entrance/shower/WC room. The sliding door closes the shower or the closet.
12.JPG13.JPG

Over the door to the cab is the electrical Equipment, mostly Victron but also a Sterling Alternator to battery charger. The 24V (2X165 Ah) house batteries and the starter batteries are in a box under the same door.
14.JPG
The small "garage" (75cm X 75cm X 210cm) was made in GRP 30mm panel by Ormocar. It contains two 11 liters gas bottles. The first one is permanently fixed and can be filled up at "autogas" service stations. The second one is conventional.
15.JPG16.JPG

I can now work almost full time on the construction. It is not as fast as I would like but it is better everyday. Every Saturday night, we go in the wild to experiment it. Very pleased with the concept already.

I will try to keep you informed as the work goes on.

more photos of Ursul's construction

Hi,

Thanks for your comments.

The subframe is new galvanized steel. Ormocar and others were concern the old fireman one would not be strong enough.

Here are new photos.

F1.JPG
this is the living room area, living, eating and sleeping. there is a permanent "L" shape bench, a table and a single seat bench. This area is 210cm X210cm. On these benchs, we have 6 X 70cm x 70cm matresses that we can use in different ways for sleeping.

The practical way, we both sleep on the length of the cabin one use the permanent bench, the other over the table with a free space in between. Very easy to get up in the middle of the night.

The romantic way, One uses the permanent bench and the second ond just besides.

If necessary, we can also sleep 3.

F2.JPGF3.JPG
here we see the table in both position, for meals or for apero time.

F4.JPG

In the front half we have the kitchen on left and the entrance/shower/toilet on right. On both sides a storage section séparâtes it with the living room.

F5.JPG

The heating is a webasto 5kw water heating. Under the step to the living room are 4 smalls Alde radiators.

F6.JPG
F7.JPGF8.JPG

Here is the kitchen. An Ikea 50cm X70cm sink and a dometic gaz stove.
In front of the cab entrance is a removable shelf. It really makes the kitchen bigger.

F9.jpg

There is a Dometic oven and a National Luna horizontal sliding Fridge/freezer.

Most of the storage are plastic boxes. On this side,The white and orange one are "Really Useful Boxes" from UK

On the other side, Rako grey boxes from Switzerland. These grey boxes are normally hiden by the entrance/shower sliding door.

HI Pierre, that looks really great. It is amazing how you have managed to pack so much stuff into such a small space. Really good work.

Ursul on training,

Hi everybody,

The work on Ursul is going well and with the spring, it became possible to work outside. So to show you what he looks, better to show him in action during the "Petits Gros 2014" meeting last week in "Bourgogne". It was a nice off-road training for me.
