I have had several friends that were die hard chevy fans and bought the diesel. They were underpowered and not very dependable. And with the cost of diesel today, I think the 383 as mentioned earlier is better. It is probably more dependable and more powerful.

Ya the 383 would be more powerful, but the diesel will have much better mpg return than any gas engine, and it's not the dog everybody try's to make it out to be..

Any diesel will have issues with no or incorrect maintenance done to it.

OP Search on here about the 6.2/5 engines myself and others have posted solid info about them...

FWIW, my stock '88 V20 sits fully loaded under a tarp for literally 12 months at a time. It may smell of dead rats, but it starts and takes me into the mountains and back, year after year.
