Cap,

I'm not sure what you've gotten done already as far as route plans go, but I've always wanted to drive across DVNP from the N/E to the S/W. Last time we entered the park from Beatty, I thought about driving across DV and coming out at Mengel Pass/Ballarat, but time didn't allow it. Would be a super cool overland trip if you're still in the planning stages! Though, I'm sure any route you come up with will be a good time. :) Here's a rough outline (Google Maps link) to get an idea of mileage...side trips may vary! You wouldn't have to end up in Trona...for those heading North or East from Ballarat, you could go up to Panamint Springs for fuel. For those heading South toward LA/OC/SD, they could gas up in Trona (I only put Trona in the map route because that's one of my regular stops as I go South from Ballarat).

Here's a somewhat similar route in the opposite direction (S/W to N/E): http://www.off-road.com/trails-events/trails/offroad-travel-death-valley-part-1-53449.html

Carlos,

I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it since it's my wife's birthday that weekend...but you see, it was my birthday 2 days ago, so I told her that for my present all I wanted - was to go on this trip - which happens to fall on her birthday. HA!

I updated #16 below

Carlos, since this is on NPS land do you think you'll need to get a permit for a large group like this? I know I did when I ran that large group though the Mojave Rd a few years back. Might want to call the park to doublecheck...

I did a trip with about 35 vehicles out of Beatty in the spring and there wasn't any sort of permit, but one of the guys in the group was a DV park ranger so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Check the park site and see if it mentions any sort of restrictions on group size. If not, then we should be fine.

Hey guys,

Attached is pic of suggested first leg of the trip, Thurs night and Friday night.
I been to Death Valley a few times but by no means I 'm an expert on DV so feel free to chime in with suggestions or any important info you can share.

I did not expect such a response of participants and with such large group it might be difficult to please everyone but we'll do out best to make it a fun trip!
So far the plan is to camp on Ballarat Ghost Town Thursday night and start really early Fri.
I think it will probably take us 8-9 hours (about 50 miles) to get to Fri camp at the warm springs, so we should hit the road around 9 am Fri.

FYI, I'm using the southern California "Well's Guide" along with other sources as reference for more challenging Terrain and interesting destinations while minimizing long washboard drive.

I'll upload second day later after I hear your opinions on the first leg of the trip.

Let me know what you guys think.
