Romania! My wife and I went about 15 years ago, in fact I have been to that lake with the town under the water in the second video. My wife is Romanian, but ethnically Hungarian, her parents escaped when she was young in the early 80's. Her father had strong opinions that the Russian's did not appreciate!
The landscape is quiet striking but the age of the buildings were a marvel to an American like myself. I really like the rural people of Romania too. Hope to go back again someday maybe rent an Aro and explore a little deeper. Hope you sampled some palinka! Thanks for sharing your videos.
BTW was that Gogol Bordello in the second video?

Palinka is everywhere and most farmers in the backcountry produce their own "artisanal" palinka… and they're always proud of it (of course always better than the one made by the neighbor ), and proud to offer you some glasses and sometime more…
I can't wait to be back on the Romanian trails this summer with a group.
