Default Expedition Portal Ham Radio Net - I really need help!

    Hey!

I'm getting my left knee replaced in August. Prior to that I've got a Dr.s appointment on the 4th of March in Flagstaff, AZ. at 4 PM, followed by a family dinner in Flag, so I won't be able to run the net that evening (Flag is a 90 minute drive from home). I'll try to join in if I can - should be able to get to the node at some point coming down off the rim.

The following month I've got surgery scheduled to remove the femoral rod on April 8th. I'll be "lounging" in a comfy hospital bed overnight. Yippie...

In August I'll be missing perhaps both meetings - don't know what the schedule is yet, but I know I'll be down for a week or two...

I really don't want to skip these meetings, so we need some volunteers to take over net control and to pick there own topics.

Sooooooo, who's gonna step up and grab the by the horns?

Here's a copy of the net script. I make a sheet up for each meeting by filling in the blanks and adding the pre-registered callsigns. It's much easier for me to have that done before check in.

(Open the node about 10 minutes early. Remember to pause for 3 seconds after keying up before speaking. Listen for traffic, then make the pre-net announcement. “This is (your call sign). The Expedition Portal Net will be starting in approx _______ minutes on the Western Reflector node 9251 )

    CQ CQ CQ

The Expedition Portal Net is now open. This is (your call sign), net control for (date). My name is _________ and I am located in (City, State). This is a directed net, and all amateurs are invited to join the net. This net meets on the first and third week of the month on Tuesday at 22:00 Eastern Standard Time, 19:00 hours Pacific Standard Time (or daylight time) on the Western Reflector node #9251. (pause)
Are there any short time or mobile stations wishing to check in at this time?

COMMENTS FROM CHECK-INS (Start at the top of the check in list)

Are there any other comments or questions before we close the net?
(If there are any comments, repeat the above until our allotted 60 minutes is up. If there is still time remaining, net users may rag chew until the hour is complete)

I’d like to thank the Western Reflector and all the local nodes for allowing us to meet this evening.

This is (call sign) closing the net at __________ PST. 73, and good evening to all.

if only it weren't on Tues I would be all over this thing...
I have tried and tried to change around my schedule at work to have tues off but there are only 3 of us to cover 4 days (2 people a day) and I just can't get it to work....still trying though.
Oh well just another reason to change my position to Float Pool so I can just work when I want.
I will try to mark the dates down way way in advance to see if I can help.

Oh and by the way you have done a great job keeping this thing going! Strong work and good luck with surgery.

Sorry Mark, I'm not up to the task or I'd volunteer. There are lots of experienced hams around here, fingers are crossed.

Thanks for the replies Lance and Chuck!

If there is no one willing to help out, it'll be the end of the net, and I'd really hate to see that happen.

I could ask for help from another forum, but, after all, this is the Expedition Portal Net, so...

I hope somebody will have the time to volunteer. I thought it'd be great to join in, once I got my license and equipment.

    Update:

Looks like the knee replacement will be happening in early June!

I'll definately be missing at least one net, perhaps more. It would be really great if someone would take the net control duties!

Also, the revised net script is in the 2nd post.
