Bluetooth GPS reciver for ipad that goes on/off with vehicle?

I have an older Bluetooth GPS receiver that had a special feature that turned it on and off when power went to it's usb charger. Basically every time I start the truck, the receiver starts up.

That worked great for my laptop, but now that I grabbed an iPod Mini retina, apple doesn't let you use the older Bluetooth gps stuff. Im not crazy about jail breaking a 64gb mini that cost me $600.

I have seen the Garmin, Bad Elf, Dual, ect... stuff out there for the iPads. Does anyone know if any of these can be permanently hardwired so they turn on and off with the vehicle?

Also any suggestions on what would work best if I want the native locations apps (google maps, apple maps, waze, ect..) to still work?

I know for cellular Ill have to get a verizon hot spot or similar along with an offline capable mapping program. Just want whatever gps I get to work as transparent as possible.
