Ventura County is now accepting "self defense" as a reason to issue CCW. Got mine a few months ago. Very easy and straight forward. Fill out application, live scan finger printing, background check, application review, 16 hours training, done, card issued.

Yes, Thousand Oaks is in Ventura County. VCSD charged 205$ and then there is the 16 hour training, which varies greatly. I seen courses as much as a grand. The local range has a weekend course for 300$. I went with a private trainer that charges 200$ with a 25$ CalGuns.net discount. Plus ammo, but you only need about 16 rounds per gun on your permit. Ventura allows 5 guns per permit.
