Basically you just secure the shaft (by running your seatbelt through the steering wheel so it wont turn when you disconnect it). Then unbolt the bottom of the shaft, there is one bolt that goes through the shaft maybe 10" down from the firewall. Then you just push the shaft towards the firewall to get it to break loose. Push it in and out maybe 40 times and put it back together. What it does is free up the grease that built up inside the shaft and lubricates it correctly again.
I added a zerk fitting and added more grease on my silverado the first time but the problem with that is the shaft may not collapse in a front end crash... which could be a problem. Just re-lubing it by the above method worked just as well on the Tahoe and Escalade.
