Chevy silverado tent rack

Hey guys, i want to put a rack on my 2000 chevy silverado ext cab long bed (8ft), But i want it to be over the bed and about a foot shorter than my roof so the tent wont be higher than the roof. i have seen the tacoma bed racks that just go from bedrail to bedrail and are pretty low profile but does anybody know of a solution? please post pictures if youve got them. i dont have a problem with building one, but i was wondering if theres a ready built version. i don't want a cap though.

I recently had one built for my Raptor. I also wanted to keep the tent level with the roof of the truck to make sure I could still park in the garage. One thing we forgot about was that the ladder goes on top and adds another inch or two so keep that in mind. Also remember that the mounting rails on the tent add ~1" to the height. Fortunately I have enough clearance that it is not an issue.

I didn't want to have mine resting on the bed rails as Raptors seem to be prone to bed-spread if offroaded hard, I imagine adding weight to them would only make it worse. We tied mine into the bolts that tie the bed to the frame. The rack is very solid this way, no movement at all when driving fast over washboard roads.

This isn't a good pic of the rack, and the front is set higher than the rear (both are adjustable up and down), but these are the Thule racks. They do sit on the bed rails though, and clamp on. I can get some better pics later if you'd like.

A little off topic but what kind of tent are you using TiFJ? Any comments and the price you payed for it would be welcome. Sorry if I hijacked the tread...:Wow1:
