Default LWB 407 - somebody should snap it up

It is 2WD, but other than that, looks like a perfect platform to kick things off

That is a nice example. The crew cab is pretty rare I think. It'll have the 616 engine, the same as the 240d MB sedan so parts should be readily available worldwide. In fact, Tempo in India is still producing that engine under license from MB. They even turbocharge it and put it in their version of the Gwagon, called the Ghurka.
It's pretty expensive compared to the going prices for the standard versions since they are a dime a dozen in Europe. I think it's easy to find the 407d for around 5k on mobile.de or other European countries websites.
It'll be way underpowered compared to what American's usually expect but that 5 spd should have a granny gear to help it get around the steep parts.

I agree with Kerry that the price might be a little dear.

    Two things to note:

    1) There is a similar 407 on CL (San Diego I think) that has been there for quite awhile an may be ripe for a reasonable offer.

    2) I think I talked to Joerge (eBay lister) a time or two a year or two ago, and it sounded like he would take a special order. So if there's something like that, or slightly diffferent, that you've got to have, contact the seller at that eBay link, and I think he can help you out.

If not, then Ralf at youngtimer.us will do it. I have bought, shipped, titled and registered a truck through Ralf, and it went very smoothly. Wasn't cheap, but it was smooth.

I'm pretty sure the Craigslist one is the same one as the Ebay one. Is this the same seller who's been posting the same fire department red one on both Ebay and Craigslist all around the country?

Looks like he has another 407 on EBay. Mint condition, low miles. Sorry I have no clue how to post pics.

He e-mailed me pics and this rig is like new clean. What is it worth ???? What is the down side of a vintage 1982 rig with such low miles ?
