Safety Chain Question - Need to Lengthen

As the title says, I need to lengthen my chains 3 - 4".

Unfortunately, at the trailer end, they are attached via a welded piece. I could cut that off, get longer chains, and weld a new loop to the trailer.

I could also use a couple of screw-link connectors (or whatever they are called!). But I need 2 or 3 on each chain - not something I want to do.

Maybe a connector and short piece of chain?

Any other ideas?

I'd cut the existing ones in half and use a shirt section with the screw links like you suggested.

I'd get the hammer repair links (depending on your trailer weight) I use them on mine. I think I got 3/8" so they are plenty strong enough.
