Where to safely tap into 12volt switched in newer vehicle

Hello

I'm going to hook up the $50 battery isolator system in my truck and was wondering about where to find the 12 volt switched wire to use. I was told with newer vehicles it's not as simple as it used to be to find wiring and penalties for screwing it up can be severe. (Fried computers etc). Can you use a fuse tap in the fuse block in a known 12v circuit? this is on a 2012 dodge ram 2500.

Thanks I'm advance.

The radio harness is probably a safe bet if you just need a low-current connection to sense on/off. There should be plenty of documentation on-line describing the wire colors from stereo installation kits.

Much easier than cracking open the ignition harness.

I usually tap into the cigarette socket - 12v, usually 10 Amps and switched (make sure it is switched, for example, my Jeep has one that is and one that is not).

I was going to suggest the cigarette lighter socket as well. Since the circuit is big enough to handle a resistive heating element, the little bit of electronics most folks have hanging on it really doesn't tax it.
