    Default Mexico Gear List/Bike Prep.

I'm at t-minus one week until I get to follow in the footsteps of ExpeditionsWest and BajaTaco, and head South to Mexico...

So, I thought I'd do a bit of a thread on the bike prep and gear, so that ya'll might see what I've found has worked for me over the past several years of Mexican moto travels. I'm heading down with a good friend, whose easy going spirit mellows my tendency to overplan...

    The Trip:

March 13-23, 2008, Flagstaff, Arizona to .....Copper Canyon Area....with lots of room for variations. We'll cross at Douglas/Agua Prieta. We plan to camp, use cheap hotels, crash at folks places we meet...whatever...so we have to be prepared for all conditions.

However, a main goal is to find an off tarmac route from the ruins of Paquime to the town of Madera...last year an attempt was made, and I ended up "lost" in the Chihuahua high desert for three days...ran out of food...treating water with iodine from the medical kit....FUN!

    Paquime:

We'll likely head down to Batopilas, outside of Creel, time permitting...

Definitely! I'm not quite sure if we'll be on that side of the SM, but it's great to know you're so close!!

If we find the route to Madera, I'll make sure to get you some log points to add to your list!

Looks like a good list, we always tend to want to take everything, alternator belt and watch battery? Put the new battery in you watch, only thing I would add is some kind of camel back hydration system.

Sometimes I ride with a Camelback, sometimes not....usually I take a 70oz. lightweight bladder, but don't really find them comfortable with an armored jacket...

Sounds like a fun trip! Love your bike. Looks like you've got plenty of gear for contingencies.

PS- 5 year old GS w/29K?
Get out and ride that thing!

Don't the older jackets have a pocket for a water bladder like the new rally pro's? If not....time to upgrade!

29K ...that's what happens when I bought another cool Land Cruiser...too many choices of fun....

GT. Yeah....I haven't used it yet...kinda a pain to fill with the armor liner in it...they're really made to be used as a layer with an armored suit underneath if you use the bladder.

We may have some trip changes....

Due to back problems from an earlier moto "getoff" my riding partner is unsure about the off tarmac routes....

    So....my question to ya'll....

Anyone interested in me doing the trip in the Troopy?

Nothing like a totally "new" and untested machine in the back-o-beyond of another country....
