I've done a lot to the jeep lately and have done very bad updated this. I'll grab some pics and write it up tomorrow

I've lifted it 2.5, front and rear bumpers, tire carrier, cb, and installed the full top.

And no more oil leaks!

What an awesome deal!! I need a neighbor like yours lol. An 02 in my neck of the woods would go for an easy $10k. Cant wait to see your updates!

A few pics from my recent beech trip. I was running hot the whole way there so now I have another issue to fix. I also need to add up my total on the first page. It runs real smooth just have to get used to the wind noise. I was getting 12mpg which seems a tad low

While I was there I did replace the radiator cap and started to do the termistat when I got home but am having trouble with it leaking now so I haven't been able to see how it runs.

Since I didn't show the install on the bumper I did put frame tie in on the rear since I plan to put a cargo basket above the spare tire

So this is my current issue with it running hot.

I was getting very hot when stopped or driving slow. Highest of 235. I replaced the clutch fan and that got be down to 215 at idle and slow. I drove to the coast and it was getting about 224-228 going 65mpg. I then replaced the radiator cap and thermostat with a 195. Now when I start it up and drive around going under 40 it stays between 210-215. As soon as I get on the highway it goes back up to 226-228 and even once I'm off the temp won't drop unless I turn it off for a few hours.

There are several potential issues in the overheating problem. So, you may have cat problems with the heat issue. (not my first thought but sort of fits the description) Do you still have the fan shroud on? (some people remove this item for unknown reason) Jeep had a TSB about heating issues that included a different fan and fan clutch which they no longer make and may be nearly impossible to find but there are several ways to get more flow of air. The radiator may be blocked by dirt, grime, bugs, mud, powerwash it. Your radiator may be clogged (from insided) if its the original one and anyone has added the wrong coolant and made a chemical sludge. Being a 2002 you may have the head issue (0331) that sometimes will crack between #3 and #4 cylinders (I know after finding that on my own 2002 sport) and could be why you got yours so cheap.

What to check to prevent fixing something that isn't broken. Go online to Blackstone Labs (they test oil) and they will send you a test kit. Return it with a sample of oil from an oil change to see if coolant is in your oil. Flush the cooling system now with prestone or similar stuff and completely drain the system after. Use HOAT coolant when refilling with distilled water. Go on the jeepforum or jeepwranglerforum and find out what you need to do. Cooling problems are somewhat common for the TJ.
