1993 Toyota Pickup - Desk to Glory v2.0

Desk to Glory v2.0

After parking our red pickup in Costa Rica we needed to find another truck as a daily driver while we're in BC. The point of being back here is to work, save some money, and return to Costa Rica before shipping to South America. While we're home we're going to be exploring, camping, and enjoying our own backyard for a change. We've been joking that this is similar to when your dog dies and you need a puppy to replace it. Since we left ol' red down south we needed to fill that hole with something…

Ryan at Disturbed Industries had put this truck together as his daily driver. Although it wasn't necessarily for sale, he offered it up to me since I was on the hunt for something decent. I was looking for something that was clean and stock as a base for a build, but spending more on something well put together and reliable is probably a good plan. Good thing I'm learning a little bit as I get older. Since Ryan wanted to keep the wheels that were on it I grabbed a set of black steel ProComps to get it rolling.

Overall compared to our other rig this thing is a powerhouse. The 3.0L has a totally different powerband than the 22RE and loves to rev. It works really well with the 5.29s. Driving a truck that's completely empty instead of packed with all of our junk is a nice treat.

The suspension on this is SOFT! With the stock torsion bars resting at stock height and the high sidewall of the 35s this truck has a much softer ride than the OME kit on our red pickup.

At this point we don't have many plans for the truck beyond cleaning it up and enjoying it, but we are missing our CVT Tents roof top tent already…

Damn, that is a nice truck. Makes me miss my '90, the SR5 seats were excellent. I also was quite fond of driving the 3.0, willing to rev and powerful enough for the old yotas.

That truck is a beaut, those front seats are probably the best I've ever seen in a Toyota (my 88 4Runner had them, now in the 86)

Is the brake fluid as dark as it appears in the image?

Yes, the interior is super clean!

The brake fluid definitely shows up a little darker in the photo.

I figured I should start cleaning up the underside of the truck this week. I started with the rear end and springs. It's really dry since there aren't any leaks, but lots of minor surface rust. I put a wire wheel on a variable speed grinder/polisher and used a regular wire brush to take the surface rust off. I cleaned it with some Gunk for good measure and then sprayed it with a couple of half used cans of black Tremclad. I don't expect longevity out of the Tremclad, but for the $0 it cost me I have low expectations. :)

Did a quick run south to Mt. Baker for a couple nights of camping. A good reminder to keep it simple and get out there. We just grabbed a couple of 4" thick foamies from Fred Meyer, our comforter and pillows from home, packed some food, and ditched out.

Crazy to see grey clouds and snow, when it is one hundred and eight **********' degrees here...
