notice the tranny type in the description. its basically a 90"s gwagon tranny and transfer case, if i surmise correctly.

the G had the w028 4 speed, but i wonder if the housing patters are the same. i bet the w026 is merely a gear ratio difference.

the 3.7 detroit ought to be a one wire diesel with easy US parts availability.

just a thought for the older tired G's owned by oil lovers.

The engine is a VM 638. Its an inline 6, displacing 3.8 liters. It has nothing to do with anything Detroit Diesel (they sign my paychecks) ever did in North America, thus no real parts support. Better option would be an OM603 from Germany. They go for less than $1500, and actually belong under the hood.

That's a rather messy lineage.

So is the motor us supported or not? I.e. did it end up in gensets or forklifts in us applications?

The VM engine is a somewhat unloved engine in early range rovers , the 200/ 300 tdi engines finished it off
