So I went to start my FJ60 the other day and all I got was a click, click sound. I took a second, cussed some and then it started right up like usual. Is this an indication that I need a new starter or that this rebuild might be in order?

I would say that the contacts are probably ready to go. Here is the kit I believe yours would take or you could get the parts separately through Toyota. Either way, it's much less expensive than replacing the whole unit.

I have never seen the need to have favorite quotes. Now that I think of it, people usually quote me.

I have a bunch of junk that is not any better than yours.

You mean the cussing won't keep fixing it? Thanks!

I used this guide to replace the starter solenoid contacts in my 1999 Land Cruiser. The starter was underneath the intake manifold. What a pain. But thanks for the guide.

After I finished with the contacts, I took the starter to Autozone so they could test it before I put it back in.

    Interesting to read, Thanks.
Reminds me of repairing my old Landcruiser starter. It was different in that the bolted in contact parts were symmetrical in that they could just be unbolted, turned over to expose a fresh contact surface and keep working another 40 years !
