Thread: 1978 Toyota FJ-43 Land Cruiser For Sale

Default 1978 Toyota FJ-43 Land Cruiser For Sale

    Listing for a close friend:

For Sale: 1978 Toyota FJ-43 Land Cruiser purchased in Colombia and imported to the US; currently in Boone, NC with a clean title and NC Inspection.

When the truck was purchased in Colombia it was given a frame up restoration. The truck was disassembled; all the metal sanded down, primed and repainted the original color (which you have to do according to Colombian law). The window packing was replaced, all the body seals and weather stripping replaced. All the nuts and bolts were acid dipped and anodized. The seats are recovered in 1000d Cordura nylon with a roll cage fabricated and tied to the frame. Once back in the States the truck went to HCORE4X4 and Aaron Bishop gave it a front diskbrake conversion and a rebuilt Man-a-Fre High Performance 2F In Line 6 cylinder engine with less than 5k miles on it.
The truck has a military pintle hitch and an aftermarket radio.

The truck currently has no heater. It was like that when purchased and it appears that it never had one, probably because it was shipped down to South America where one is not really necessary. Owner has purchased a refurbished one on eBay and is working with the same vendor to get a reconditioned blower motor and the appropriate plumbing, wiring and duct work.

The only other oddity of about the truck is the original keys were lost in the transportation process up to the US . The transportation company had a pair of ignition keys made for it so the doors, gas cap cover, and ignition are fine. The spare tire and the bar for the low-tech anti-theft system are just padlocks so they can be cut off and replaced. It should be a simple matter to get keys made for the rear door and the drawer under the driver’s seat. Both are currently open and will not hinder operation.

For more details or any questions call 828-355-5825 or send an e-mail to SafariTeam5@Yahoo.com. The number is a Vonage phone number so it is a NC number as the owner is working in Santiago, Chile (Eastern Standard Time + 1 hour. He is generally up until about 2300 or so.) To see the vehicle feel free to contact Dave at 828-297-1636, he is knowledgeable about the truck and can answer questions about it. He has power of attorney to handle the transaction for the owner.

    Asking price is $19,000

Alot of interesting FJ's making their way North from Columbia. The most interesting part is the fact they all have very different body styline, ie tops, racks, trim, etc. The must have some amazing talent in town, to be able to pull off so many different variations that have high quality craftsmanship.

There is a local freind of mine that imported a couple of Columbian FJ43's, each was a bit different than the other, which is a bit different than your freinds, makes them truly one of a kind in the states. Neat rig for somebody

Here are Jim's FJ43's here in Utah, he brought them over as he pulled them into town one Sunday afternoon, I looked out the window to see these pulling up

That is a nice rig, I'm sure someone will snap it up. We have a BJ43 running around town here in Mountain Home. It has a 4 passenger across rear seat and buckets up front making it a 6 passenger. It is a neat length. Bigger than a 40 but not as big as a troop carrier.

Dont know much about the truck, but I will give credit to hardcore 4x4, Aaron does great work. I have traveled many miles in rigs he has built and have always been inspired by his craftmanship, but he is my best friend. If anyone wants the lowdown on the truck I will talk to him and get info for a buyers perspective. If serious PM off list.

The FJ43 might be the perfect all-around FJ. 100-inch wheelbase; lots of room inside but still handy on the trail.

I hope more of those find their way up here!
