So some of you may know me from NPORA (same username), bear with me as there's gonna be alot of copy and paste;
Bought it last September from a guy an hour away, he'd been using it as a farm/beater truck and it was in pretty rough shape. CV shaft was busted and the boots were cracked, shocks and brakes needed to be replaced, taillight was cracked...it was generally beaten up but still fixable. So I paid the guy, drove the backroads home and parked it in the driveway, then spent a weekend cleaning it inside and out (sorry, didn't think about BEFORE pictures).
Went to the junkyard and grabbed a new taillight to swap out...
New headlights, air filter, spark plugs and floormats were next. After that I made an appointment with the shop on base to get the CV shaft and boots, brakes and shocks fixed, and then safetied for insurance. In the end, got it back on the road and insured just before we started getting snow in November. Once it got cold I packed it in and started looking into ideas for what to do with her. Lifts, tires, racks, but my priority since I wasn't going to be offroading in the winter was making the inside nicer, so next step was a new stereo to replace the deck that wouldn't read CD's...
Took me an afternoon to wire up and install, but FAR better than the stock deck.
Next priority was getting ready for the awful spring roads that we see in Manitoba (they grit the roads here so there's gravel covering the streets now). So I hire a friend on base to make me a skid plate and I set out myself to bed line the sides.
Results on the sides, I'm happy.
The steel skid guard my friend fabricated for me, similar to the ones 4x4design used to make.
On top of that I had ordered some vent guards off eBay for the windows. I'd been planning to pick some up and somebody on the R50 Facebook page linked to these ones, so why not?
BEFORE
AFTER
Picked up a short antenna from Crappy Tire for a couple bucks.
I ordered new tires and picked up the spacers from 4x4design (2" set all around), and was sent to Alberta for work, so I left it at the shop to get everything installed, last picture before my big change.
(note the busted headlight, happened while playing in the trails with my friend)
And here she is when I got back;
So there's the 2" spacers from 4x4design, Goodyear Duratrac 31x10.5x15 and new struts and sway bar.
Cut out the bumper because of rubbing while in reverse, and then redid the bedlining on my hood.
Picked up a few decals for the side, also named her finally, AND managed to get myself some taillight guards (Westin);
