5 Lb LP Tank Marking

I just received my new 5 LB propane tank and I have a question for the US folks here. There is this HUGE decal which is stuck to the side. Its ugly, and I am worried that the decal will trap moisture and prematurely rust my new tank (years from now, its the same idea behind why I don't put stickers on my scuba tanks). I want to remove the decal, but it is labeled with some verbiage about not removing unless in accordance with NFPA 58. I tried to read the regulation, and I can find anything in there which states that I need to have the decal on the tank, or that I can not be removed. I was assuming that I is the same idea as a mattress tag, and that I can be removed by the end user. Do you folks have any input?

I think that you can take the label off if the tank is permanently stamped with appropriate DOT information. The size and shape of the container would alert a hazmat responder to the contents and it would be treated as a unknown flamable hazmat in an emergency.
They'd much rather have a placard... ...but they could tell by looking at it that it's probably propane and not something more sinister like anhydrous ammonia, etc.

All bets are off if you want to cross into Canada.

Here's the training video that we watch for the FEMA Hazmat/WMD Incident class:

The fallen officer didn't respond correctly; a sobering lesson and the reason that emergency personnel prefer marked containers
