My Disco2 Build

Well, I sold my belived Range Rover P38 a few months ago. And I've been having Land Rover withdrawals ever since. So I found this "Bosch" Disco 2 for $3100 in immaculate condition. It has 146K miles but had the engine replaced about 30K miles ago. It runs superbly.

Without further ado I introduce: Claudia, and she is a sexy beast.

Specs:

2000 Land Rover Discovery Series II
SE7
ACE
CDL (just need to add the linkage off my 1987 RRC parts truck)
255/55/18
Harmon Kardon Sound

Current MODS:

OME751
OME781 Rear Springs
Pioneer Head Unit

Future Plans:

265/65/18's
Rear Locker
10K Superwinch (already have it in the garage laying around)
Lighting
Front Tube style winch bumper
Rear Bumper
Diff Guards
Front Driveshaft upgrade
Cobra CB Radio (laying around in the garage)
Safari Guard Roof Rack
Black out the hood

I got her 2 days ago, here is what she looked like. Someone had removed the rear air suspension and put OME781's in the rear and left the stock springs up front. Looked dumb, but I had a set of OME751's in the garage collecting dust, so it was a bonus even if it looked stupid.

And last night not even 24 hours after I got her, I installed the front springs. It took all of about 2 hours. Pretty easy, although it was still 90 degrees in the garage.

Some Poser shots of the flex with sway bars connected

Just to compare, my last Range Rover P38. I still miss her. She had a lot of weird gremlins, but we had a lot of fun. Never once left me stranded

Treat a Rover properly and it'll treat you proper.

Your P38 was damn nice too. I'll be keeping an eye on this build.

Rioja is a haaaard to find color out here. I need a new hood for mine and its practically non existent for a D1.

Can you disconnect the swaybars on an ACE equipped truck without causing problems? I would probably disable/remove the ACE system as soon as possible.

I really like the ace system. It keeps the truck level no matter how fast I take a corner. It shuts

I can build some sway bar disconnects for it.

The hood on mine is a bit oxidized. I tried to buff it out. I helped a little but not much.

Mine isn't oxidized. PO house-wifed it into the person in front of em, smashing the hood, they sprayed bedliner on the first foot of the hood.

BTW: there is 3-4 DIIs just plopped at the yards here. if you need somethin lemme know.

Nice truck! I love that color on these. The truck already having the springs is pretty awesome, just one less thing for you to do. I loved the OME setup in mine, but I kept the SLS. I also had ACE, which I absolutely loved. The truck would corner ridiculously flat.

Your build plans sound really cool. One thing though, you don't need to build swaybar disconnects. When you put the truck into low range, ACE automatically sets the swaybar system into off road mode. The hydraulic system (if I recall correctly, it's hydraulic) that operates the swaybars goes completely limp and exerts zero pressure on anything. It's just like disconnecting the swaybars, but the truck does it for you. I kept the ACE system active on mine and I had no trouble with flex.

Looking forward to the build!

I don't doubt the effectiveness of the ACE system - but I think you are asking for trouble by putting swaybar disconnects on it. If the system tries to react to a lean, it's going to be exerting a lot of pressure on a "limp" swaybar and at the very least could throw faults and at the most may damage something. It's a very expensive system to repair when it fails. (The pumps are known to have a limited life span)

Okay. So this started out as a simple, I'll just install my CB for fun.

And ended up being, hey you know that junked out 1987 RRC sitting over there with the CDL linkage just waiting to be used on your D2!

Here was the victim

All hooked up, tested and functioning correctly. Don't forget to trim your Transfer-case hole in the plate so you can shift the CDL on.
