After planning and dreaming about it for a long time, I finally quit my job, with the 4th of July being my last official day of work (conveniently a holiday!) Our immediate plans consisted of a couple family reunions in different parts of the countr(ies) and our longer term plans involve travel to some new places not decided upon yet. My family (wife, 3 yr old daughter, 1 1/2 yr old son) and I immediately set off on a trip to my wifes family reunion in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin camping:
After about a week of hanging out with family we started heading toward home in Colorado with a detour through Rapid City to visit some friends.
We decided to stop at Wall Drug in South Dakota since I have driven by all the signs on the Interstate in the past. An interesting place with plenty of souvenirs for the tourists and gigantic jackalopes:
There is a great place called Storybook Island in Rapid City which the kids loved. It has characters from all different fairy tales.
We made the obligatory stop at Mt Rushmore and then headed toward home, camping at a state park just outside of Ft. Collins.
3100 miles and two weeks and the first reunion trip was complete. We are so lucky the kids travel well. More to come...
