Old Truck Bed Build

Hey there everyone.

I had the fortune of coming along another trailer for free. It was found on my churches property, I asked my pastor who's it was and he said I was an older man that donated it many year ago. I need some help with identification of what year truck it was likely from. Pretty cool for free and the time it took to drag it out.

Mark there is no tailgate unfortunately. It has rotted wood floor there is some taillights, the taillights might be a clue once I get it completely out.

That looks pretty much like my truck bed trailer. Mine was a 53-56 Ford stepside bed (PO didn't know the year, but the fenders and design match the 53-56). Mine had a rotten floor too.

I'm pretty sure that's from a Ford truck - late 50's to mid 1960's

I had one made from a mid-sixties Dodge truck - came in real handy for hauling stuff that was too grubby to put in the back of a "nice" truck.

Hey everyone pulled it all the way out today and brought it home. Here are some pictures! 98ozarksrunner do you have a build thread?

I am looking for suggestions on where to start. Anything would help.

I will start by measuring everything, removing the fenders and front. And then get to work wire brushing I guess. The fenders and front have years of paint and some body filler on it, but seem pretty solid.

Yep. That looks pretty much like mine - mid '50s Ford F1 stepside. My build thread is linked in the post above. The top 'flare out' on one side of mine was dented so I cut the sides down to 18". If they hadn't been dented I probably would have kept them and put a flat lid on it.

If the fenders are decent, sell them on CL. Lots of guys restore these old pickups, and I think the fenders fit from '53 to the mid '60s. I sold my set for $50.

I almost like the idea of using the fenders. I think I will chop them even with the bottom of the bed though.
