Extreme Outback Ultimate Overland Recovery Shovel

Got a handle all 2years ago. Used it for a season of gardening to get a feel for it. It is robust. I ditched the ax head in lieu of a Gerber x25. Added a self made metal t handle to extend the assembled shovel length for comfort and leveraging. Keep it in the jk now. The idea is to have portability but full size tool when needed.
The hi-lift "handle all" works fine, I also have a tool called the "Baja Buster" I think, a rather smallish removable shovel head and a hoe, have not used it yet but I think a hoe would be much more useful to remove material in the confined space under a mired truck it has a slightly curved handle that can be used with the hi-lift jack also I have used it in this way and it works just fine. mjmcdowell

I give you the "Horsebiz Pro Folding Spade with Serrated Blade & Aluminum Handle Utility Shovel Multi-function Axe Hoe Hammer for Camping Hunting Solo Self Defense Survival Tool" http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NU3F7RK?psc=1 :)

Or better yet, the more tersely named "Multi-function Folding Shovel Axe Hoe Hammer Knife Fire Flint Whistle Camping Hunting Tourniquet Solo Survival Tool" http://www.amazon.com/Multi-functio..._sbs_lg_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=1YQ3N8YJAGB2045743R1

Not to be outdone, the "Chafon 2014 New Mini Compact Multifunctional Emergency Outdoor Camping Folding Survival Shovel Knife-Sappers Shovel-Mercenaries Multi-functional Outdoor Tools for Hiking & Camping (Practical type)" http://www.amazon.com/Chafon-Multif..._sbs_sg_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=197WNE95EE9FK02AMNN0

Its actually a very solid well built churched up reinvention of an e-tool. I'd use it over an e-tool anyday. IMO it's better suited as a "wig splitter" than a recovery tool.

Here is a solution I came up with for a compact full sized shovel. I just drilled out the rivets holding the blade and handle and used a wire lock pin to hold it together. When I do again I think I'll leave the handle on.

Have you used this in anger yet? It's a good idea but I worry that hard use will wallow out the pin holes in the wood.

No I have not used it yet. The pins first go through the metal of the shovel head and the fit is tight. You could always bolt it together for more strength.
