I got my 1994 Montero SR on September 2013 (almost a year with him now) I was looking for a nice adventurer truck for me and my girl. with the montero being so underrated in the US/MEX I started looking for the most popular ones (land cruiser/land rover/range rover...i didnt want a jeep way to many jeeps out there) i found a fairly good land rover ready to go with roof rack lights and everything. they where asking 3k for it, which i thought it wasn't bad at all. i then began searching for a trooper (since my dad had an old trooper and we used to go camping every weekend on that truck) reading more about the trooper i came across the montero and that the Sr had Diff locker. thats when my quest began... it's so hard to find a god condition montero in socal, its even hard to find a montero in socal. i was looking of course for the SR 94-96.
when i finally found one that said clean tittle 1996 SR very nice looking. i had to drive 2 hours up to LA to go test drive it, once there i notice a weird sound also the tittle was salvage and the guy wouldnt go any lower. so i passed on that one. my next one was about 3.5 hours from SD in piru city (very beautiful place) clean tittle. 150k miles. very good car ran smooth. nice people selling it. (the father of the girl selling it was form tijuana) so i decide to make an offer of 1,500 when it was posted for around 2,500 on craigslist. and they accepted my offer so i bought that beautiful 1994 mitsubishi montero SR. as soon as i registered the truck i went for a ride down to tecate and to ensenada pretty nice ride (tires were pretty old and wear out, i didn't care) little by little i've been putting some money on that guy. gave him a good tune up. bought some nice 31's bfg all terrain tires. crank the torsion bar and it was ready to go. had some good adventures. then i wanted more and so i bought some 33's bfg all terrains. cranked the torsion a little bit more. put spacers on the coils. plasti dip everything (that plastidip is addictive)and put a nice 24" led bar on it. i love my truck. still need some work. my plans for the near future is put a roof rack (i was planning on putting a roof rack tent but i think it will lower my mpg a lot) also want to put nissan patrol y60 coil springs on the rear so i can get rid of those spacers and get rid of the sway bar (y60 coils are stiff so it's a nice ride even without the sway bar).
that's the story for now of my john and me
