newbie ? about GPS

Hi,
I own a Garmin GPSMAP 60 CSx and an old dell Inspiron 1501 laptop that I'm not using. Just wondering if I can use these 2 together to learn about GPS coordinates and using mapping software in general. Would like to attend the expedition workshop in Vermont next month so I'd like to have some basic knowledge on the subject before then. Any suggestions from the forum would be appreciated. I'm not sure if you mean specifically GPS or navigation in general. It pays to have some background in navigation in general in order to understand how to use GPS and maps effectively, even if they are just on computers. Projections, coordinate systems, etc. Check around online for tutorials; there are lots. To start off, go to the source: http://www.gps.gov/students/
