iOS 8, Apple's update to the operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, is now available for free download.

Apple has been testing iOS 8 for months. That said, I'd suggest that you wait a couple of weeks before you upgrade your devices. At a minimum, wait for iOS 8.0.1 or 8.0.2. These maintenance releases are likely to come in the next week or two. Let someone else find the major bugs.

I put my 4S with iOS 5.1.1 through the washing machine a couple of weeks ago. Dessicating it and having some pro's look at it did nuthin' -- it's bricked. Grrr. I miss Google Maps as the native app. Now I have two iPhone 5S's -- one for work and one for me. Man, I miss that earlier iOS, and I simply liked the iPhone 4S aesthetics the best.

Many years of hard lessons have taught me the message you preach, haven -- "never use software with a version number ending in 0".

It's gonna be a while before iOS8 convinces me it has anything to offer.
