TransAmerica Trail to Overland Expo East

We thought that our trek from the AT Overland shop in Prescott, AZ to the Overland Expo East outside of Asheville NC should be more interesting than simply pulling an Ironman marathon on the slab of asphalt across the country. Instead we have decided to take the longer un-paved path, essentially following the TransAmerica Trail that Sam Correro assembled from the maze of back roads that weave our country together.

We are waving caution to the wind and ignoring Sam’s advice to not attempt the route West to East and setting off about mid point from Monticello Utah. While Sam’s datum ends in Jellico Tennessee, we have cobbled together a final section that will take us from Jellico to the Taylor Ranch in NC. Our total route is approximately 3200 miles, 95% of it is unpaved back roads and trails. This ought to be fun and make for good camp fire stories at the Overland Expo. If you happen to not be in attendance but want to learn more, we are blogging it on our website as often as internet connection will allow. Join us here: http://adventuretrailers.com/blog/

What's your expected time for the Arkansas portion? I will need to be at the venue early... If our times mesh up, I'd enjoy showing you what the TAT leaves out for this natural state. Same time frame, similar mileage, extra awesome.

Looking forward to seeing how your trip goes and talking to you guys at the expo.

Any chance u guys could post the post TAT gpx file if you have one. I'll be driving west after asheville and have had troible finding good trails. I have hundreds of miles in ky amd wv but none in nc and tn.

We're off to a great start and even bumped into some fellow Expo members on Osphir Pass...go figure!

We're not using a gpx file, we are using roll charts from Sam Correro who developed the TAT concept, a pelican case full of maps and fair dose of adventurous route choices. We are not documenting the route with a GPS unit either. Instead of simply doing the same as others, we encourage people to discover their own paths fueled by inspiration form others.

Whulp! We finally got a little internet access to post up our day 5 on the TAT. A fantastic day that took us into the four western states of Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma & Kansas. It was a day of vistas, discovery, interesting people and history. To read more here is the linky http://adventuretrailers.com/tat-day-5/
We look forward to meeting up with folks at the Overland Expo and sharing the story in person.

You do realize that it no longer begins, or ends in your case, ends in Jellico, TN. Roads have changed and it now starts in Tellico Plains. Sam has updated his maps.
